really don't think I'llever tips someone thats getting payed to do the job there doing.

I hope you are excluding servers in a restaurant. Because I'd like to see you pay your bills and raise a family on < $3/hr. I agree that if they make more than minumum wage and don't think they are making enough, they should talk to their supervisor for a raise or promotion. But in a restaurant setting where the government allows the employer to pay less than minumum wage because the employees expect to get tips...that's a whole different story.

No but for food service (bussers and waitresses not fast food places) I tip really well. Minimum wage for farm workers and food service is like $3.15 I've worked doing that, its not fun, people are rude, and its hard work...no one can live on that kind of money..now if they do something that really pisses me off..then i don't tip really well..but I ALWAYS leave a tip...

Places like subway where I go to lunch like 4 times a week and they know my sandwich when I walk in..I'll tip a buck or two once in a while..

Places like the hardware store..walmart..doctors office..no freaking way...

I always tip in a resturant. Not a fastfood or store clerks, their getting paid to do their job. Thats just sily. I a resturant I tip about 20% if I'm not needing a drink for to long. If on the other hand I get my food and don't see them untill I'm done and they bring my bill, I'm going to leave the change in my pocket and thats it. I've been in places that were slow and had $hitty service and a bad adittude I won't leave anything. They need to find a new job if they can't do it right.

Well, I work as a server at Applebee's and I hate crappy tippers. I make $2.15 per hour plus tips. Which admittedly ends up working out very well. I am good at what I do, and really enjoy making good money for doing a good job. When I get these ingnorant customers that just don't know how to tip, I feel like finding out where they work and going in and making thier day of work a pain, just to show them somewhat how I felt by giving them the best service I could and getting nothing in return.

I  understand how you feel about the whole tipping situation, but you have to remember...  satisfaction is is the CUSTOMER'S perception...  You can't make everyone happy ALL the time.

Also...  YOU "chose" the field of food service...  not them. You could easily go out and get another job that pays more per hour, but of course you wouldn't get the tips.  In the end, you have to weigh the options and figure out which is better for YOU in the end...  and don't forget to weigh in the bad things too.

Oh yeah if giving free beer a tip then I'm guilty of that.  Before I had a house and the different people would come to hook up al lthe utilities and whatnot I used to offer them beer if it was hot outside or they looked thirsty.

I've worked as a server and some people never got the concept of tips. I wanted to wear a big pin that said "I only make $2.13 a hour" but my manager wouldnt let me, I dont think some people get it. I used to work at a hotel making above min. wage and my job included driving to the airport to pick up people (get their luggage also) business travelers would normally tip they were easy to spot. People coming into town for cousin whoevers wedding never would. And it was always these people that would expect the shuttle to take them ALL over town, I even had one woman ask if I could wait while she bought groceries.  Did I work off tips? NO. But did I deserve something for my effort? I dunno, but it sure would of been nice.

Here in oregon they have to pay at least $7.80 an hour. Most people are actually paying above that too, plus tip. so they are doing ok. my friend works at a restaruant and makes like 25 an hour or more with tips.

Oregon is stupid, last month on the way to Seattle we (Louisiana residents)  stopped to get gas to find out you can't pump your own gas. After the shock wore off we talked to some residents who said its mostly to create jobs. (new jersey too) My friend and I laughed when the guy obviously was expecting a tip as he paused for a second and then realized. I can pump my own friggin gas, try that crap down here and people would run the politician out of office. You should see the pumps right before a hurricane, its a mad house.

I've never and will never tip the guy pumping my gas, i hate it, i wish i could do my own here, they let you on the bike but not in the car. but, one time my friend gave a tip and the guy was like wtf is this for. so i can't say they expect it. i've never seen that.

edit: i've never seen somebody tip the gas guy other than my friend that one time.

Any one that is a server, food deliver,or drink server makes $2.15 here also. Some places care and pay min wage up to about $8 or $9 an hour.I managed a chain of pizza restraunts and we paid cooks $7.50,drivers $4 plus $0.80 per delivery and keep all tips.Cashiers made min wage. These are starting wages.I could deliver for 4 hours on friday night(5:30 to 9:30) and make $80 to $150 in tips. You have to know I live in a VERY small country hick town. Most places close around 5pm every day.BTW,I tip according to the service I receive.I'm not tipping someone that's chatting and not taking care of me.That's why I'm there. If I have a good waitress, she'll know me when I come back.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

I don't like tipping at all, but I at least understand the point when it comes to certain jobs...  What started as a reward for doing a good job, a bonus, has now become a part of the person's wage.

Servers get taxed on 15% of their food sales...  So, when you don't tip them, you're taking money out of their pockets.  :icon_confused:

I tip at restaurants...  I tip cab drivers...  I tip the bellboy if they haul my wife's bag (it's worth the $2, trust me)...  Sometimes I'll tip on a take-out order...  Other than that, I don't fill most of the tip jars out there.

Oh and...  I don't give cash to bums either.  :nono:
