well when i hit about 90 mph the front end starts to shake a little and i have to pull on bars till about 105mph then it is gone sometimes it is worse than others i was wandering if they make a stablizer for them i hav looked online for them but had no luck does anyone have any advice or info other than not to go that fast

spc

No damper for GS.   Problem Solution=Don't f%$king go that fast.

Do you have bar end sliders ? Putting some fairly heavy ones cured my problems ... though mine was at like 70ish and only when i had my hands off the bars . You got some big b*lls to have kept accelerating to find out that it does indeed go away at 105 lol ... if it'd gotten worse and you had a tank-slapper at 100mph you'd be one long-a$$ed skid mark and maybe a few bones :o

I have bar ends, and i dont get any shake..

Ohlins makes universal damper bars. they are a rod type damper, usually they are mounted/welded somewhere on the triple, and then onto the left side of the frame. however there are a number of ways you can mount it. i like the ohlins dampers alot, on the 97 GSXR 600 i used to have, i had one. it saved my @$$ multiple times.

just now looked on the ohlins site. they also have rotary type steering damers.

while i think dampers are great, and i see no problem with putting one on any bike, i got to ask:

why is this happening to you? does this happen to other GS riders?

rather than fixing the symptom, you need to address the problem. take a look at your tires. is there any funny wear? usually cupping on the tire can indicate suspension problems. might need to take a look at it, also check your tire pressure if you havnt. it may also be time to sevice your front forks, when was the last time? put new seals and fresh fluid. you might notice a huge improvement in handling. just some thoughts.

No the GS does not need a f%$king damper.  End of f%$king story, unless your GS is pumping out 100hp.

Yeah, if he forgot to mention the XR behind GS :flipoff:

Chris24

hmmm. i disagree. HP's got less to do with it than proper suspension and whatnot.

i remember the first time i experianced a tankslapper. i needed a bike bad and i almost bought a KLX650.
which is a dirt/street bike. mainly made for dirt but it was street legal etc. i got it up to 60, and just past that i thought i was gonna die. glad i test drive it cause no way am i ever gonna have a daily rider that cant go over 60.
the tires and suspension just werent made for those speeds. the engine could have maybe done 75 but no way you could hold on...

the damper doesnt have to be expensive, you can probably find one off a nice crotchrocket... or at least whats left of a crotchrocket at the salvage yard. or find one off ebay, etc...

With all that you might hit 100hp but only for the 2 miles until the f%$king engine blew up.    Anyone here ever had a real tank
slapper on the GS????
Completely f%$king unnecessary, is what a steering damper is on the GS.

well i lowered my bars slide them closer to the tank and that has seemed to fix problem for now i just had it at 100mph and i did not get no shake

TragicImage

I've had a real tank slapper.......

but it was caused by a badly worn front tire combined with a suddenly flat rear tire.....

Exactly, if you are having stability issues with the GS there is an outside cause :thumb:
