I rather like the art. I give it :thumb: :thumb:

I trust Michelle Malkin's opinion on art exactly like I trust Michelle Malkin's opinion on anything (which is to say, not at all).

Do you prefer censorship of art?

I just don't think this art should be displayed and payed for by tax payer money, it's pretty offensive to america.

If art makes you think or feel, it is effective.  This does both.

Again, do you want censorship or not?  Do you only want art that conforms to the desired propaganda?

The proper expression is "I couldn't care less".. otherwise, it's grammatically nonsensical..

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Grammer sucks and no one cares :flipoff: :flipoff:

Its just art, its there to invoke some emotion and this thread confirms it has.  If everything that was offensive was taken down this wouldn't be America....

blah, the message doesn't bother me in the least... but the art looks like something from a third grade class.  The gov't didn't get their money's worth on this one (like thats unusual)

Would you prefer if art in public spaces was limited to paintings of angels adoring American heroes with Jesus in the background giving the thumbs up while riding a bald eagle thats dropping bombs on Nazis?

It's art man. Express yo-self. F*ck censorship. Aw, crap, was 'f%$k' censored? Dammit...

I am offended by those crosses though...  Those things shouldn't be displayed in public.   :nono:

Egaeus

We should define art as only paintings by Thomas Kincaid.  He's the painter of light, you know.

And then fold them until they're all sharp corners and shove them up Michelle Malkin's ass.

Perhaps those that see this as a "freedom from censorship" issue might reflect on the fact that it's being funded with tax dollars which are, bottom line, collected at gunpoint.

I have no issue with the "art" (though I personally think it's childish), and would very much defend their right to create it and display it, wherever they like.. until I'm forced to pay for it. That's where their "freedom" suddenly comes at the expense of mine.

Declining to PAY for something is NOT censorship. You like it, fine, pay for it yourself. Nobody is stopping you.

I agree with you to a point, Wrecent.  I used to be a libertarian (I ran for state representative in TX on the Libertarian ticket one year) and had a much stricter view of what was proper for government to fund.  As I aged and as I have traveled, I have begun to see that many things I previously disavowed in governments benefit a society.

If we fund SOME art but not other art, we are engaging in censorship.  And the suggestion in this thread was that art which in some way criticizes America should not be funded.

I do think that public art is beneficial to the population at large, and thus acceptable for government subsidy.  In Europe and Canada, symphony orchestras are at least partially funded by the state (here they are totally private).  Museums, same thing.  Art of all kinds is one of the defining artifacts of a culture.  When the state contributes to art, it recognizes that art is important to the citizens and that it is important ENOUGH that all taxpayers should contribute to it at least minimally.  It's at least as important to me as continuing to maintain enough nuclear weapons to decimate the surface area of earth.
