Oil Change question...

Changed my oil for the first time yesterday :thumb:

Question: The drain bolt was between the 2 pipes of the muffler. Kind of hard to get at. I didn't want to strip the bolt so I ended up just removing the front portion of the muffler just to get at it. Is that normal?

Just asking because I'm not sure if the previous owner made any exhaust mods.

Thanks.

Sounds to me like you have an after-market exhuast. Typically you can get at the oil drain plug with a socket no problem.

Yeah. That's what I'm thinking.

Probably the reason I have a side mount kickstand instead of the stock center mount.

Reddog787

yeah, stock headers stay in place for an oil change.
stock headers are usually dark steel look, aftermarket headers are usually shiny metal

Actually the bikes came with both a side stand and a center stand. Most people remove the centererstand when they use aftermarket exhuast becuase the exhuast don't include the stopper

I was considering buying/installing a center mount but I don't think it'll fit with the current header piece. hmmm, maybe i'll take some pics and post em' so you guys can advise before I purchase.

See how the bolt is partially blocked by the pipe?

Yep. Looks like you have the after-market V&H exhaust system.  The headers must be partially unbolted to change the oil / oil filter.  This is a known issue.

Suzuk-E

Does it look like I can install a center stand without it being obstructed or no?

spc

Some exhaust systems have a stop for the CS, some don't.   Look under neath the bike for something that looks like a bracket coming off the exhaust pipe but not attached to anything.
Also, your chain looks pretty loose :thumb:
