ziplock your cell, or else ?

The fantastic amount of rain claimed another electronic device. That wasn't really bad, as I don't like cells anyway. The bad part is I had to spend this afternoon hunting down a 'new' used cell, then a charger. This sucks.

Anywho, at least this one has audio, video, camera, bluetooth and all that other junk.

It still sucks. At least it was only $30 at the pawn shop down the road.

Let me guess.....you were riding, cell in your pocket when a cloud pooped on you thus ruining your phone, and any other paper products you had on you. Right??

Why not? I have bought 3 nextels and a V60(when they were in) off of ebay for very reasonable prices.

I've had a half-dozen phones since my first old StarTac, and never lost one... until recently, I lost two in about three days, both riding the motorcycle, both from the same jacket pocket. Still don't know exactly how it happens, but needless to say I don't carry it there anymore.

Anyway,  I bought a new-in-box replacement from Ebay, and Verizon refused to activate it, saying it was registered as a "pre-paid only" phone and could not be activated on a montly account. After MUCH hassle with the seller, who had an impressive feedback rating, but just kept e-mailing me the same instructions over and over,  I returned it and got a full refund, but the seller said it activated for their next customer on a monthly account just fine.

Now I'm apprehensive about trying again.

Thats why I like AT&T w/ SIM cards  I have about 6 phones ( I used to sell em) I just pop the card in whatever one I want to use and It copies your phone # and address book etc. When I go out camping or fishing or something I just use an old phone when I get home I take out the SIM and put it in a good phone 

Just recently I purchased a SIM card reader  I have a bunch of SIM cards and copy my main to each of the others. you can only use one phone at a time but its great in case you loose one  You never have to call or anything just pop the SIM in and go 

I dont know why all cell co's dont use SIM cards

If you live in the Washington DC area, and ride the Metro (subway), there's little choice- Verizon is the only system that works (if poorly) down there.

It's a fun commute. You get to spend a couple of hours a day packed in a can like sardines in many-miles-long underground tunnels, passing under several of the world's most attractive terrorism targets. Any advantage.....

I wrap my ipod in saran wrap before I go out, if I think it's gonna rain. Allows me to manipulate the controls without worrying about it getting wet.

I use packing tape, just as clear and less likely to get fouled up by vibration/friction on the iPod.




For cells, I must be pretty easy on them, had 3 phones since 2000, gave 2 of them to people that are still using them to this day, AFAIK.

just blow dry it for several min. my razr went through an hour long wash cycle, it worked jsut like new after i blow dried it except for a couple water spots on the screen

I washed many a cell phone  .  I just throw it on my dash for a few days to dry out.  But know I have that think you stick in the dryer and makes a shelf. .  .I'll try that next time  .

Sim card, if you have a sim card, you can buy any GSM cell phone and have it unlocked and it will work.  The bad thing is that you will not get all the fuctions to work.  I think I'm saying this badly here's an example

You broke your phone,  and you bought a new cell phone that has built in GPS.  Unless your service provider has GPS, that function won't work in your new phone once you put your chip in it.

If you buy a phone just buy a unlocked one, if it's not unlocked you can usually get them unlocked at your local mom and pop cell store.

I have bought a TON of phones and switch between them w/ no trouble, all the functions work just fine. Just try and find a Cinguar phone to save trouble.

The best deal... Go to cingular.com and look at the "Go Phones" Buy one online for less than $40 take out the Sim that comes w/ it and put yours in  New phone for cheap

With att/cingular you can use any phone that has the right logo on it, ATT generally wont work with a cingular SIM and vice versa.  You can also use phoens that are unlocked (no logo, usually not bought with a contract, but from the manufacturer directly). Most phones are bought with a service plan, are subsidized by that service plan (so they are cheaper) but are locked or programmed only to use that network. Most phones can be unlocked but this takes a little know-how and usually a special cable. Moral of the story: Just make sure you are buying a phone that is either unlocked or locked to your network.

Rode 300+ miles yesterday.
Lucky that I hit rain but for only 1 1/2 hours.
I always put my cell and wallet in seperate zip lock bags.
Same with passport when I head north of the border.
Windshield makes a big difference in helping to keep you dry.
Same with handguards when it comes to nuisance rain.

att and cingular will work just fine together- they are in fact the same company, heck i can use my cingular sim card in a t-mobile phone if i wanted to.
