Updated suzi is cleaned proper, image linked.

I purchased a set of third eye bar end mirrors http://www.3rd-eye.com/(09).htm a couple of months ago. After a week (yes, a full week) of rain here in Tampa, I was itching for a little GS-time.

If you've considered bar-end mirrors, these may be a cheap (read plastic) trial for your taste.

Here's my take:

They're cheap = I like them. (I'll prolly drop the bike and smash one anyway.) They _really_ clean up the bike and make it more attractive IMO. They may be too small for your tastes, and a little low. After a quick 10 minutes to install and remove the stock stalks, I eye balled them in the parking lot. ANother 5 minutes to ride 1/2 a mile and adjust again at a stop light, and they seemed to be in good adjustment.

Now, they are a little low, ie right on the end of the bar. There is no height adjustment, only forward/rearward roll and pivot forward/backward.

I've noticed because of how low the mirrors are, I check side lanes more often, both from the mirror and from a head turn. That seems like a good thing to me.

The mirrors are 3" or so, plastic housed, and a simple rubber grommet + draw nut inside the bar to hold them securely. I was surprised there was no vibration at 3, 5 and 9k rpm. On I-75 cruising between 55-95 there was also no noticable vibration, day or night.

You may want to pour lead shot into the bars to supplement the missing stock weights. I haven't seen a need yet. The mirrors are made for bicycles, but work fine for my use.

Glad they worked out for you.  I prefer stock mirrors, but that's just my taste.

I'm looking at doing something like that for my bike.  Throw some pics out of te bike in general.  I'm wanting to go flat black with a silver frame, bar end mirrors, clubmans, and a vance and hines full exhaust with jets.  Looks like except for the flat black, you beat me to it!! :thumb:

no see i had issues with the cheap plastic ones being thrown around by the wind at higher speeds.    i ended up going with the more expensive ones i could wrench down on and prevent from moving.

These mirrors work great.

These plus my flush mounted blinkers really make the bike look clean.

nice idea but it may be hard to get through traffic with those. (read: lane splitting)

I'll only split when traffic is stopped. It's illegal here, but the moto-cops I've spoken with said it's not enforced for sane riders.

The non moto-cops said the same thing. Act an ass and get treated as one applies I guess.

I lived in CA for 16 years

Interstate 15 jammed for 20 miles + motorcycle (Harley with open pipes) = adrenaline rush!!!  Commuting was almost fun.  Just get over to the white stripe between no. 1 and no. 2 lane.  And watch  for the dots!
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
I live in theory- everything works there!

Essentially the same here, just be damn sure you aren't going to get hit by some nut-job because you are screwed if you do......cops would have to cite you then and it's all on your insurance then :icon_confused: :icon_confused:

Lane splitting. I'm never in THAT much of a rush.  O0

facepants

How much further do they stick out compared to the suzuki barend weights?

few inches maybe. I've always had bar end mirrors. the last ones I had were the Napolian ones. Also very good mirrors.

The 3rd eye ones are inexpensive and work well...and I like that it's less crap jetting out from the bike.

Lane splitting in SC is illegal and enforced. You lane split and they'll hang you,if they catch you.BTW,some SC counties and HP have added MC patrol.

On I-10 in AL, I saw a guy scream past me splitting through shaZam!-tons of traffic.   I was going almost 90, he had to have been topping 130 with how fast he blew by..........was talkin to a cop a few miles later at a gas station, he said that guy has been a problem for a few months.......they're just waiting for him to kill himself, and they've clocked him a few times at 186.......splitting between Semi's :icon_rolleyes:

Well that's just craziness there.I could see it if everyone was running under the speed limit, but not more than a few miles over.

ya know it's senseless when I think it's retarded and dangerous :cookoo: :cookoo:

Lane splitting is not stunting or daredevil acts. They're different. By lane-splitting I'm referring to what is legal in California, and allowed in other states if done with finesse.

As to the fella that enjoys the rush of 186 mph, I hope someone forwards him the picture of the unfortunate rider that rear ended a semi at what appears to be equal speed. It's disgusting, rude, and terrible that someone lost their life because of a 'need for speed'. I feel for the guys family and friends. My sister forwarded me the picture  with a 80 pt message to "SLOW DOWN".

facepants asked how much they stick out from the stocker barends.

They are a 3" diameter mirror, with a 1/2" to 5/8" fastening fixture.

I guess the stocker barend is about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches so it's only another 2-3 inches on a side. If you're THAT close to anything to matter, it's pretty scary to me. I wouldn't split in that traffic. Hope I helped inform.  :thumb:

I use this one from REI:

I cut off the part that goes into the bars. enlarged the hole w/ to fit the M8 Screw and replaces the bar end screw with a longer one. I also put a washer on the end The only problem I have is that at about 90 the wind really pushes it. I angle the mount so that it's at the end of the travel area and the wind can't make it go back any further. I like it. I'm going to get another one for the right hand side soon. I never liked the way the stock ones look like bug antennas.
