GSXR 600 Rearset Install

Having read Pablo's site and seeing the GSXR rearset install page I figured I'd give it a shot. I picked up a set off ebay and the pegs for ~$100. I got everything today and set out to install it. Everything went pretty well. it was a bit tricky getting the shift linkage to work until I realized that using the existing bar I would be using a Race shift pattern (1 up - 5 down) so I decided "What-the-Heck" and went with it. The biggest problem I have is that the rear brakelight switch doesn't work correctly. I'll have to play with it some more after work tomorrow or sometime soon. The install went pretty easy actually. I filed the mounting holes and brake cylinder holes out with a hand file and was done in about 2 1/2 hours and that's working in the dark. I rode around the neighborhood for 20 minutes or so and it feels pretty good. I need to take a longer ride tomorrow and see what I think.  The pegs are definitely higher and back farther. I'll be posting some finished pictures up soon but it was dark.

I installed those a while back.  I love them!  I used all the original hardware and was able to keep a normal shift pattern.  They kinda take the fun out of long rides, but they feel great on aggressive rides/track.

An option if you can't get the break acctuator switch to attach right is a pressure activated switch.

I got the brakelight switch to work but that banjo bolt might be a better way to go.. here are the finished pics:

That is definitely a cleaner/easier install than the F2/F3 rearsets like mine.  I had to cut the master cylinder actuating rod to have a rear brake, and the ratio is off so the rear brake is quite spongy.  The fact that I've never bled it since new in '00 probably doesn't help either, but with the stock setup it was quite a bit firmer.  The sponginess helps prevent locking it up though, so I don't mind it.


Looks good, thanks for the picts and adding another option.  Can you clarify what year you used?

I had to get a new peg for the left side since it didn't come with one. My understanding is that the 92-95 sets are the same for the GSXR600, and GSXR750

The ONLY mods I had to do were to the main mounting holes and the brake cylinder holes on the brackets. To get the switch to work for the brake I just flipped the mounting bracket upside downa nd positioned it a bit and made sure it worked BEFORE mounting the rearsets onto the frame.

Why wouldn't you want to retain the stock rubber ?

I can't imagine this being very comfortable for more than 20 - 30 miles.

Is it just a cosmetic modification ?

I replaced the pegs with gixxer ones and didn't notice any problems on the weekend when I went for a ride. I did over 220 k's (about 140m) for the day.

I did it for cosmetic reasons, cause I hate the look of the rubber pegs.

Dgyver and myself were talking about this.He and I have had problems with the rubber pege sticking to our feet.It's just annoying.

I never keep my feet (or hands) in the same position for very long, so vibration is not a concern, not like there is enough vibration to worry about anyway. Rubber pegs have never been beneficial to me...only annoying when they stick to my feet, like ben2go said. Plus I like to be able to feel the peg through my boot. Helps when I am getting my fix.
Common sense in not very common.

I'm on cbr pegs with no rubber, and go hours without issue.  no numbing or anything like that.  personally, I like the feel better - it's somehow more connected.  maybe just a preference thing.

I rode about 200 miles nonstop and lifted my foot off the peg and the rubber was stuck to my boot.When i went to put my foot back on the peg,I had to push it down.i don't have springs on pegs.Does the GS even come with spring loaded pegs?Anyway,it was a little unnerving when it happened.Or maybe I'm  :cookoo:

Not really. They use a washer to push against the rubber of the peg. I guess the sponginess of the rubber is supposed to push the peg in place. I only see them held up or down. Help up is not a good thing.
