Hi,
I'm about to purchase a 2,000 GS550E (unless you talke me out of it of course) as a second bike (my main is a Kawi ZRX-1224), which would also be ridden by my wife. I chose it cause I always had a very warm spot for the GS425/450, one of the coolest looking bikes of all time, and the 500 has an upright position for good control and is light enough for the boss. :icon_lol:

The pup I'm buying is a beauty. It's a very clean looking black bike, but it sat for a few good months, and runs very poorly on the low revs.
It takes it's sweet time warming up, Idles around 1750 (though the owner prolly lowered it by now), and barely pulls under 4k rpm. I know a 500 twin won't pull like my rex, but this doesn't pull to the point where something is obviously wrong.

The bike doesn't smoke or leak anywhere and has 10k. The seller seems to be a stand up guy, and he concurrs with my guess that it's the carbs.
my questions are:
1. Does this sound like a typical gs500 dirty carb issue?
2. Does $1700 sound like the fair price? bike is very clean looking.
3. Should I get it, or is it gonna be a piece of junk like our killer current second bike - the savage  :cookoo:

1.  The GS is cold blooded, and without a rejet it takes forever to warm up.  It is possible that the carbs are also dirty.  How old is the gas?  If it has sat for some time, it might be due for some fresh fuel.
2.  If the bike is clean and mechanically sound, I would say yes, it's a decent deal.
3.  The GS is normally a very reliable machine with normal maintenance.  In fact, many say the only way to truly kill it is to run it with no oil

Clear up the carb / jetting issue, and I think you'll have a very enjoyable second ride.
