What's the expectant milage?

I have 11,550 (all but 341 have been put on since july 06) and I'm being told that these bikes don't really last this many miles....

50-150K, just depending on your maintenance.

I have 26,000+ on my 2002.
Engine runs like new.
Bike runs like it was a new bike.
No big issues yet.
Just the usual oil leaks.
Was riding back and forth to the Adirondacks this summer, 300 miles one way.
Would alternate between the V-Strom 650 and the GS.
I would arrive at 11:00 pm on some nights via roads
where you can ride 30 minutes and not see a soul.
That shows you how much confidence I have in the bike.

I've put on over 30K hard miles on my '00 since new.  Ran it low on oil 3-4 times when I was an idiot about maintenance.  Engine runs stronger than ever (helps that I did a pod filters/rejet/full exhaust), bike handles like new, and haven't had any major issues.

I spent all day yesterday at 8-11.5K RPM, wringing it's neck around a track that had a surface temp of 110 F, and zero issues.  You wouldn't believe how mad and frustrated guys get when a ~45hp GS500 zings passed them around the outside on their Ohlins-equipped R1 with all the "cool" mods.

i fill mine up every 100 - 110 miles and it is only about 5 buck or 1.7 gallons so i guess that is about 64 mpg...but i am taking it easy on the bike because i plan on selling it soon.  oh btw that is a quick math and estimates so i could very well be wrong

i bought my 05 as a holdover in june of this year. ive put 6k on it since then. so about 3k a month for me. i can't seem to pry my ass from the seat though. that thing has been the reason behind many nice day work call outs. haha

From what I recall of Jack's tire posts, he has at least 50K on his 2002, and 80K on his 1997.

My old 81 CM400A remains my air cooled twin all time high milage champ, I bought it with 2k miles on the clock and gave it away with 98k miles on it and it's still running with over 100k miles on it. 

I expect 80-100k relatively trouble free miles from an air cooled Jap bike.

Bought my 97 GS500E new in Mar 99 and it had over 80k miles on it when it was totalled in July 03 and I bought the 02 GS in Sept 03.  It was still in pretty good shape and I expected to run it another year or so before the accident.  One exhaust valve was down to a min thickness shim and oil consumption was increasing.  I gave it to JP when he blew an oil pump or something on his GS750 and it now has over 85k miles and is having some carb/fuel issues that need attention.  It sat unused most of the time from 04-07.  No engine work or carb work (rejetting) was done on this bike while I had it, but it needs some soon.

My 02 GS500 now has over 52k miles on it and runs so good it scares me.     I expect it to go 80-100k miles with no further major work.  It had a sticking exhaust valve bucket when I bought it slightly used holding the valve open when very cold and I let it go until about 21k miles on it and one cold freezing winter morning I cranked it and bang.  Broke the exhaust valve off at cranking speed.  I repaired it and have put over 30k more trouble free miles on it since and it runs great.  Must have come from the factory with the bucket misfit.

With the Mobil 1 synthetic, I changed oil and filter at about 3k intervals.  With the Delvac or Rotella dino juice I change oil at about 2k miles and filter at 4k miles.  Don't think you can find a better or more economical oil for the GS than these heavy duty oils.

Most viscosity breakdown occurs in the first 1500 miles and the curve levels off after that.  Typically I go about 1500 miles on the 02 GS after oil change before adding a pint and then another pint around 2000 miles.  I usually get it changed before 2500 miles so a gallon per oil change covers it.

2005 GS500F, got 17K miles on it, I ride ~ 15K miles a year on it... no issues.

Thanks everyone - I am just checking cuz I was told that the 04 carbs have been totally rebuilt for emissions standards.  AND that so few have gone past the 5K, 10K mark that they (Suzuki) don't really know how many miles I can get out of this bike. IN FACT...hold on, Jack cuz you'll love this - I was told that maybe I've put too many miles on the bike already.  These bikes usually only get a few thousand miles and then....


well they never told me what happens to them after a few thousand miles, but for a minute I had a vision of Jack getting them and riding the joyous heck out of em for another 100K miles!!!!!

If they're maintained, do they ever quit?  I mean, you do your oil changes and valve adjustments, I figure you ride it 100Kmi+ until you decide you're adding too much oil and retire it.  I don't think it will ever leave you stranded because of any mechanical engine failure.
