I don't smoke.
My dad did (1 packet/day, on average) but quit when I was a child, his health improved a lot, no more bronchitis in winter.
I only happened to light a cigarette for some friends of mine a few times (4 or 5, not more) but I was already grown-up (22yrs +), and I never caught the habit.

It is one of the very few things I am really proud of.
Better health and money saved. :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:

Just curious fo rthe people that do smoke, why did you start?  I think it's safe to assume that most people nowadays know about the health risks of smoking.  And there is no real "benefit" like you'd get from alcohol or weed.

Growing up I was always around people who smoked, most of the men in the family served in the Navy, mMy grandfather developed lung cancer the Navy said it was because he was a smoker but later it came out that he had gotten it from asbestos used in the ships, then my grandmother passed away from developing lung disease as well, last year my best friends mother developed lung cancer that mastizied to her brain, we all went to visit her in the hospital one day and while standing at her bedside she took her last breath, man I am choking up just thinking about it, it was such a heavy time and a heavy thing to see. Naw that stuff is not  for me, life has no guarentess, but you can put the odds in your favor by making good choices.

I used to smoke. I quit about three months ago.  I now use the money I spent on smokes to pay for my bike and insurance and I still come out ahead monetarily and health wise.

I don't smoke, but once in a while (year) I'll have a cigar.

A cigar and / or a pipe when the mood strikes me.

first job i had was at 15, I was corrupted by the stoner kids there, it was the first place I smoked pot, cigarettes, drank beer, or ate shrooms. I came out normal but still smoke. Initially it gave me a heavy buzz, its still soothing, except for when its nasty.

pros: buzz + soothing/familiar + altered mental state + alleviates boredom, tension, hunger + social activity
cons: ashtray breath, smoky smell on clothes/fingers, stimulates mucus & need to spit, yellows teeth over time, degrades health and oxygen intake, worsens or causes respiratory illness
summary: degrades health, smells, offers some benefits, familiarity, and comfort
conclusion: want to quit for immediate and long-term health and lifestyle cleanliness, but not right this second

I only burn 5-7 a day under normal circumstances, but spirit yellows are worth 2 normal cigs.

...smoke break

+ 1 to what nightrider said, which i agree to
