Mine does that when the bar isn't turned all the way to the left, it will usually be about 1/2 inch from the end position. when I turn it all the way it goes smoothly

Put a little graphite on the key, or let the dipstick drip on the key before insertion.

Pushing IN while turning the key with the bars already locked LEFT is how it works. Take the tension off the lock while unlocking and it's easier also.

Have you found your helmet lock yet ?

Graphite GOOD, motor oil BAD for locks.  DON'T DO IT!!!

Like what has been said before, turn the bars all the way to the left and push down on the lock to get it in and out. btw helmet lock= two tabs on each side under your seat  :thumb: .
