screwy tach

my tachometer works when it wants to work, now I dont really use it, its just the fact that its not working that bugs me. I have to tap it with MY FIST :x a few times then it starts to work. I thought it might be a loose connetion but I checked and there tight.
any thougths
what comes up must come down

You checked whereit attachesto the engine right?id replace the springy dealinside
