Looking to buy a GS500 in NJ area

Hello everyone. I just got my license and I am looking for a bike to buy. I love the GS500e and I would like to see what is out there. Here is what I am looking for:

1. Bike MUST be close to central Jersey. I'd consider driving about up to an hour, hour and a half away but only for a great deal.
2. I would prefer a naked bike, which is fine because I don't think I could afford a newer model. Still, all models will be considered.
3. The motorcycle must be in drivable condition. I don't expect perfect condition, but I do want a road-ready contraption.
4. My budget is about $1500 at the moment, growing every pay day, haha. Not much, but I figured I would throw this out there just to see if anyone is looking to sell instead of winterize.
5. No purple or pink bikes.

I think that is all for now. I'd appreciate any and all responses!

Ha, I suppose I'd look at one if the price was right. Money saved would go to a paint job, lol.   :)

If location is the issue just PM me and I'll let you know if we can work something out.  :thumb:

Thanks for the lead! Looks like I'll have to extend my range on ebay. Could just nobody buy any GS's for a few days?

No problem..I'm always checking out GS stuff on ebay now that I got mine..notice that of the few GSs for sale a couple were in your area. I notice these things alot cause there is never any good stuff on ebay close to the midwest.

i noticed your wanted add here and i do happen to have a light blue 1995 gs500. its has high miles (about 24000) but has had new valves and rings every year since i have owned it and still runs great. it has some very minor cosmetic problems such as a couple paint chips on the gas tank (but barely noticeable) and a few scrapes from a very slow speed tip over. one thing i want to mention is that i purchased a vance and hines exhaust for it last year, a jet kit, and a K&N air filter ( i do have the old exhaust on hand though). the engine sounds good, runs strong, and never overheats. it has new mirrors and low profile turn signals, and a rear fender trim. the bike is overall in great condition and is very clean. it has also had regular maintenance (oil changes, chain lube, new battery etc.) my price is very firm at 1700 as is, but if i do take the exhaust off i can lower it to 1500. i do live in central NY but i am willing to deliver it to you to an extent (an hour away if possible just so we can make it even if we do work something out) you can email me for pictures any time you want. my email is -dmoney6115@gmail.com- the main reason i am selling is because i just turned 16 and i need a car! so please if you have any question just email me. I hope we can work something out  :icon_razz:

Could you explain this new valves and rings every year information? I'm new to bikes, but if its the same as cars, that seems like a whole lot of annual work. Do you have a stock exhaust lying around to sell with the bike?

I check craigslist every day. I actually called up on the 2004 that I think you are talking about but I figured it was too good to be true. I saw it go up on ebay the next day and all the fairing was cracked. When I asked on the phone what kind of condition it was in cosmetically, he said there was stuff here and there like on any beginner bike. I figured I didn't know what else he was trying to smooth over so I let it go.

I just don't see why people lie about stuff they are selling - i mean scratches on a beginner bike like the GS is unlikely to put many people off as you can take the fairings off to have a naked or you can leave em on and not worry about you dropping it while learning.

When i was looking for a car, i rang up a guy about one and he said it was excellent condition - someone had just key'd down the side of the door but he had had it professionally repainted and you couldn't tell, he had taken pictures of the car in an upmarket area and the price seemed to reflect the description he had given of the slight key damage. I though well seeing the pictures i can't see much wrong with it. The guy was 100miles away and i really needed a car so me and my dad drove out there to view the car, found his house, or rather apartment, in the shadiest roughest location you could imagine, grafiti everywhere and there was the car. We drove past parked up and walked back to check it out before finding his door. Well took one look round the car and walked away didn't even bother to speak to the lieing bastard. The "professional repaint" of the key'd area was rediculous, the color match was almost perfect but litrally it was an aerosol can job, blatently done by the owner, he had just sprayed the area with the paint to cover it, obviously didn't bother to paper the windows or the mirros up because there was blue paint all over the windows and mirror, he obviously had a load of paint left and went round the car getting rid of the rest of the can! It looked like it had been grafiti'd in the same damn color, he hadn't even bothered to clear coat so the matt effect of the grafiti job showed up against the shiney original paint he missed. It was rediculous and would have required a full respray. We didn;t even bother to speak to him. I HATE people who lie about stuff they are selling.

I agree 100%. I'm a pretty realistic guy so I understand what bikes will be offered in my prices range, no need to lie. The other week I drove an hour and 40 minutes to see a Ninja 500 in "excellent mechanical condition." Now I assumed that mean the bike was running with no leaks. I get there and the bike didn't even start.  :dunno_white:
