$610 Cage Ticket...

I was coming back from school today in my car when a NOPD cop walked out in the road and flagged me over. First thing he says, "39 (normally 35) in a 20, license and registration" it was so quick I was like what?!? He said your in a school zone. NOOOOOOOOOO! I usually come through the area after class or work post 5:30pm so I was not even thinking of the time. As he hands me the ticket he realizes I have no brake tag, (vehicle inspection sticker) which I had not gotten on my car since I moved back from Bama. So happily he says, " wow I almost missed that" and adds it on.

By the time I inspect the ticket he is back in his car and actually has stopped another car and is signaling me out of my spot so he can write up this next poor bastard. I drove down the street to check it out further, here is what he got me on:  Speeding S/Z 19 OVER, No Brake Tag, Careless Operation. 

I can't do crap about the tag and speeding because I clearly am at fault but the careless operation is just too much. I was not on the cell, swerving or anything of a careless nature other then speeding which I guess is his justification. But there were no kids around or parents waiting to pick them up. Grand total....

I'm planning on calling the DA to see if there is anything I can plead since I have a spotless record. Also planning on calling some attorneys. I am just so pissed, in 5 min I lost 2 months salary. I'm a full time student working two jobs between classes, I can't even afford to live in that rat hole of a city. I can't wait to move from NOLA and get away from all its bull. Sorry for the rant. Anyone have some ideas???

an atty would prolly be helpful. perhaps the brake tag can get dismissed if you come to court with it ( most will do something like that) but damn an atty would prolly be good. your lookin at some major pointage now

I got a $1350 exhibition of speed ticket in a foxbody mustang for getting loose in the rear end on a really rainy day.  I got a lawyer and dropped it down to 200 out the door including court fees and all that.

I just got a phone bill for £88.52 - i feel ripped off  What do you reckon, will an atty help me out with this one? Possibly get the charges dropped. I think it was so unfair to charge me that much there has to be something i can do... Suggestions?

Keep your paperwork in order!  Cops LOVE paperwork, especially when it isn't right.   

The guy was an obvious @$$hole, but beyond hiring another ashole (lawyer) all you can do is pay up.

I'm curious too, how much did the attorney fees come out to? I called the Traffic court and they said they can't tell me how much exactly I owe for 2-3 weeks until the ticket is processed.  WTF.

in other news: I think that cop was a mother_etc arsewipe. dude, some months ago I got a$300 dollar ticket for speeding... 95mph on a 60mph zone. Not even the fact that is was deserted, no houses or cars around and that I openly said to the cop that 'every once in a while I like to floor it', got me off the ticket, but JESUS!!! $600 ...

You can do alot with tickets.  It sucks that you got it, but speeding in a school zone is a big NO NO .  If you go the lawyer route, make sure to go off referral only.  Alot of lawyers will simply take your money, go to court, and plead no contest for you.  Obviously, you can do that yourself.  If i were you, I'd just sit the tickets out, or ask for community service.  NOLA is a whole different world, so you might end up in Angola if you try to sit them out.  I had a buddy get arrested for DUI while we were stationed there, and they had him sitting in prison, not jail, for 2 days.  

Court Clerk: "Jarrett, you owe us $250.  How would you like to make your payment?"

Me: "I'll take a single bed, non smoking please.  What's the soup dejour?"

Dude.. the cop had obviously never driven a foxbody.... my 2.3L I-4 foxbody got squirrelly in the rear when it was wet, a 5.0 has no chance at hooking up...

see if you can do a Trial by Declaration?  Get as many extensions as possible, the file for the TbD.... I'm not sure if NOLA has anything like that though...

$1350 for no proof of insurance in the truck, pulled over at 130 in the morning for a licence plate light being out, after working 10 hours, had switched from gieko to progressive that afternoon and had left the dayplanner sitting next to the puter. time of day and being in a safety corrodor each doubled the fine.  and the bastard didn't even write a ticket for the light being out. 





but i went in and showed my proof to the DA and they threw it out.

I'm still working on my options right now. I've been so busy with school I have not gotten to it yet. My next move is to contact my Uncle who is a lawyer and get his advice. I'll keep y'all posted. Oh and last week on top of that bad luck my car broke down and ended up costing me 500 bucks to get it fixed. When it rains it pours...

damn man, 1350 i thought my 150 speeding ticket was expensive , ( AND WITH NO Proof of insurance either) but i paid the ticket. i was guilty as hell  the PofI ticket got dismissed tho
