Well they put a stop to bearshare pro so if you're still able to use it...RENEW YOUR SUBSCRIPTION if they'll let you.  Once it lapses you have to start using their newest version...which sucks, or it sucked for me.

For those of you who've moved on to something else, what are you using now?  I want to use a good, paid service but I want it easy to use and I want to actually be able to buy or download the songs.  I've tried a couple other free trials (try out...I want a subscribed service but I'm not paying before I get to use it) but haven't been able to find something I like.

Anyway...post away...

I've heard good things and bad things about limewire but I've never used it.  Is it a paid service?  Can you get full, quality, downloadable songs?  I mean I'm not sitting here filling up my hard drive but when it strikes me that I want an original, live version of Bus Stop by the Hollies, or a copy of the original (and unintentional hit) Mrs. Brown You Have A Lovely Daughter, I want to be able to find it.

omg dont ever pay for a p2p program :o
A good hint is to avoid any program named pro, gold, plus or whatever else they can come up with. 99% of the time theyre just trying to cover up the fact that its a free program (and a lot of times actually open source as well). I use Ares (ares galaxy available from sourceforge and nowhere else!)
only problem with it is that the newest versions arent vista compatible, but use an onlder build and everything is just fine ;)

If your paying for a p2p program, a pro version, your not paying for your music, your paying for an enhanced version of a free piece of software, alot of times this unlocks extra features such as when you search for songs you can get faster download rates.

At the end of the day though, unless your on msn music, napster, yahoo music or whatever and your paying 99p a track you are just stealing music. Limewire, bearshare all involve borrowing music, unless your paying for a subscription service where it specifies you get such and such amount of tracks a month or each track will cost you this amount and each album will cost you that all your doing is downloading it from someone else and not paying for it.

If you want to be completely legit, legal etc... you need to get on Napster, iTunes, MSN music... those sorts of people where you have a subscription and then pay by track or album or you just pay directly for a track or album.

Bearshare now has monthly limits in place, but it was next to impossible to find songs.  iTunes is the next best thing in comparison to the old Bearshare Pro, so I'll likely be going back to them...I just had going with one of the mass-market companies.

Its not a paid service, the song you download ARE illegal- copyright infringement. there are viruses and bogus files on limewire just like all the other "free" services, just be smart don't download a song thats only 45Kb instead of a 4MB because that is a bogus file and always run the files through a virus scanner and NEVER install software downloaded from p2p programs.
