Hey been gone for awhile hope the forum is back to normal.

Finally started putting my bike back together (96 gs) .  Tore it down towards the end of july.  Upgraded the rear and shock.  Had the valves adjusted, new clutch pates, dropped a tooth in the front, timing advance,  and painted the frame and swing arm.    I also upgraded the front end.  Which is where im having some problems.  I bought a katana front end off of ebay.  Then i had the stem pressed out and the gs stem pressed in.They bolt up fine.  My problem began when i tried bolting up the wheel with the brake calipers.   I kept and used my gs wheel for the forks since they are compatable.  I also used my gs rotor and found another one on ebay which i then slapped on the other side. but now when i slide the rotors into the brake calipers they fit.  Although  the axel wont line up any more.  it seems to be an inch off.   IF the brake calipers are off the wheel has no problem sliding in. But if i try to put the calipers on at that point they wont line up with their perspective holes.

I think the problem is i used the gs rotors  instead of a katana's.   Although i thought they were the same.
If anyone can shed some light on this that would be great.

Katana rotors are smaller than the GS. You need Kat rotors.

From my Kat install write-up in the FAQ forum...

GS rotor on left and Katana rotor on right. Note that there is a left and right hand rotor for the Katana. The rotors are stamp L and R respectively.
Common sense in not very common.

yea i did a quick search last night...but my brain was not fully in gear.  I ran around today and figured it out after going to a few bike shops. got what i needed though.     Thanks for the help.

Yep, katana rotors needed 320mm GS rotor, 280 mm kat rotor if I remmeber = 20 mm off at the center = almost 1 inch ..  :bs:
2 not just 1 unless you have the second caliper removed and the line capped off.
Cool.
