1985 GS400E -- carburetor catastrophe!

Hi, everybody:

This bike is also my first bike. It had been sitting in storage for 17 years before I bought it. It is otherwise in mint condition, but the carburetors were full of rust powder and other gunk.

In the process of diassembling them for cleaning, the casting on the left-hand carburetor broke where it holds the float pin. I have managed to mend it with cyanoacrylate glue, but I realize this is a temporary fix, and so I am on the warpath for a replacement carburetor pair, perhaps so that I can be ready for next season (yes, we have winter here). (Note -- I have corrected the rust source by treating and painting the tank and putting in a fuel filter).

The carburetors are Mikuni 35mm. This particular model was only sold in Canada (with a variant in the UK)  and so examples are rare. Most people give me blank stares when I mention the model and year.

So I am looking for a suitable replacement -- I'm willing to consider putting in carburetors for another model, if I they can easily be made to fit. Mikuni B34SS carburetors from a GS450 of the same vintage have been suggested; but I am also curious if perhaps GS500 carburetors might be suitable for this bike.

Here are the measurements for my carburetors:
centre-to-centre - 108 mm
spigot (outside) diameter -- 41.5 mm
throat diameter - 35 mm
inlet (outside) diameter - 50 mm
length - 115 mm

I'm not too concerned about whether I get a 34 mm, 35 mm or 36 mm throat, provided that the other measurements are close enough to let the replacements fit. Also, it would be nice if there were jetting kits available for the carburetors so that they can be tuned to run well with my bike (but if they are stock GS500 carburetors, that shouldn't be a problem, should it?)

Any advice, sources, or even offers are appreciated and welcome. Again, this is my first bike, it's older, and I don't want to throw all my savings at it. I don't need to hotrod it, just get it running reliably (of course, a wee bit of power is always okay :) ) If you've got some stock carbs lying around and you're willing to part with them, have a look and let me know!

Cheers,

Stephen

I will have a look at this, Juanfer... although it seems to cater mostly to GS fours with more displacement...

Still interested in other options, though.
