now that's f%$king ballsy. really. to steal a trailer and all?  it's not like you can hide a trailer like that in many places. let alone try to off-load the stuff. but, you know, if someone wants something bad enough i guess they will just take it wont they? bastards!

Ballsy?  I can tell you if I were going to steal the bike and it was on a trailer...makes it that much easier to steal.  The time difference between hitching a trailer and pushing a bike onto your own trailer or whatever is substantial.

The guy owns a record setting drag bike, its likely he's hit every major drag strip in the state, NO ONE will be able to turn up to one of those drag strips with his kit without been noticed. People are bound to notice that the kit doesn't match the owner and are going to get suspicious plus he's prolly got the word out to them. The only chance for these thieves is to move it out of state which is going to take them ages without been caught. Or there final option is to break the bike down and sell the parts. Breaking it is the only way i can see they could do it, you can't just sell a stolen drag bike, 1) you have a tiny niche market for someone who wants to buy one 2) you have to be ballsy to sell something that niche because one of your buyers is bound to work out it belonged to someone else.

My guess is its still instate and not far away from where it was stolen been broken down trying to shift the parts for a few measly dollars. Best thing i would suggest would be to ask the guy for a list of 'noticable' parts he has fitted to the bike, stuff of rarity or pretty unique items, then check ebay regularly. They're bound to pop up there then ask if you can go have a look and turn up on the doorstep of these asshats.

Yep, I agree with Kasumi, someone who knows bikes is parting it out. Samething happened to a guy that lives in my neighborhood, he came home from a weekend of dirt biking and was too beat to role his bikes into his garage so he secured them in his trailer, next morning gone. I am sorry for this guy's lose because that is a pretty specialized bike, what a bummer.

True.  You shouldn't.  I'm just trying to explain the mentality of such thieves.  He'll only get caught if he tries to unload the bike on someone.

Thats what i was trying to explain. He stole something where his only option is to sell it, he either breaks it and sells it, or drives out of state to sell it. He can't keep it because he can't use it, soon as he took it somewhere to use, it would be noticed, for the same reason he can't sell it because it would be noticed streight away. His only option is to break it down and try and sell it without been noticed so through ebay or online via post would be easiest. My guess is whoever stole it are either super professionals, from out of state or who have a big operation and arn't going to get caught whatever. Or a local gang who observed the house stole it and are hiding out near by trying to shift it.

I can tell you that if I were stealing it, it would be to keep.  It doesn't matter if it's a known bike...when it comes down to it, it's made of a bunch of parts and it can again be reduced as such.  If I were doing it, it would be for the motor alone.  I'm sure that motor would fit in a number of other frames with little problem.  The rest of the bike would be destroyed.  As would the trailer, sans the few recyclable and untraceable parts that could yield a light profit.

This is why they have insurance, and I hope it was all insured.
