Carberator drain screws??

Hey everyone,
My bike has been sitting for over a month and I recently went to drain the float bowls of my carburetors as I've read in various sources that this will prevent the jets from potentially getting gunked up with old gasoline. Well, I'm only able to locate a drain screw for the left side carburetor but not the right.  I have a 2001 K1 model and my Haynes manual exploded image for the carbs only shows a drain screw for the left side. I examined the right float bowl but cannot find a drain screw. Can anyone help me with this? Perhaps there is no drain screw on this side. It doesn't seem likely that the one drain screw on the left side empties both float bowls but maybe that is the case. Thanks  for you help.

yeah.... I don't know what to tell you, but there's one on each side, that's all there is to it.  :cookoo:  If yours doesn't have another one, then someone replaced the bowl with something else.  :dunno_white:

Its possible to reverse them... The screw may be on the inside due to improper installation  :thumb:

scottPA, thanks for your suggestion   That's sounds very plausible. I'll give it another look tomorrow and report back if indeed that's the case. Cheers

Okay, well, here's what it was. There was rubber tubing connected to the drain plug.  So, I removed it and drained the right float bowl of gasoline. But what's with the rubber hose? There was only one over the right carb drain plug, not the left,  and is routed to the back of the bike into some black box underneath the battery case. Sorry, I don't know what the part is called and don't have my manual handy. Does anyone know what/why this is? Thanks again.

I know, I know. The thing is, I don't have a digital camera, or even a camera phone for that matter. I will get my hands on a camera hopefully in about a week or two weeks time, post some pictures with some more explanation.

Okay, so you say there is a hose coming from the left carb drain plug? Where is it routed to?

Right side drain plug, from the perspective of sitting on the bike. This'll be easier to show when I get some pics. Probably in a couple weeks. Sorry.

sounds like the vent tube from the airbox was stuck on the bowl drain screw.

Maybe the previous owner thought that connecting the hose to a screw improved the performance or something.

Wow, it's been a while since I last posted the original thread and I still don't have pictures to show people but I do have a little more information. The hose in question is connected, as I said earlier, to the drain plug of the right-side carburetor and now I know that it leads to and connects with the carbon cannister that sits underneath the battery well. I'm pretty sure from reading other threads that this cannister only comes on California bikes.
Can someone tell me the purpose of the carbon cannister, why it's connected not only to the gas tank but to the right carburetor and why, if there is a hose leading from the right-side carb to the carbon cannister, there is not also one connecting the left carb as well?  :icon_confused: Thanks all

The haynes manual shows  a diagram of evap system for calif models .... the purge hose from canister to both carbs via some sort of  T union...but the diagram doesn't say for what model years, if that makes a difference.

Fatcat,
Thanks, I'll take a look at the manual when I get home.
