i just took the battery out of my bike for the winter, and as i was pulling it out a piece (~3 inches) of hose came with it.

it is clearly not in good shape, cracked right where it connects to the battery and looks like it left a piece behind somewhere in the bike.

clymer says its the vent hose but doesnt indicate what type of hose it is or how long it should be.

anyone know?

I just used a piece of clear hose like you use in fish tanks..It comes in various lengths..6ft is enough for a couple of hoses.Attach one end to the battery and follow the little tabs all the way down to the right foot brake side of the bike. You should end up at the oil vent hose at the side of the frame. They both fit in the same squeeze tab.Cut off excess... The book is fine..but sometimes you just have to improvise and overcome.. :thumb:
Well, either you're part of the problem, part of the solution,...

NOTICE: It's very important to have this vent hose attached. It carries battery acid out of the battery and prevents it from exiting onto your bike. When I first bought my bike I replaced the battery and didn't know about the hose. Several months later enough acid had found it's way to the chain and cracked it causing the chain to break while riding.
