Learned the hard way.

I had read many a times, do *NOT* break while turning, but today I did and it did me.

This is what happened.

For one, it was raining and the roads were all wet, I was turning left into a parking lot at more than required speeds, and suddenly a car appears from the right, inside the parking lot. Although it was not very clear, but I feel it was my right of way. Anyways, it was blocking my way, nervous, I used both the front and back breaks, but the bike swerved and went out of control and fell on its right side throwing me off, on the road. Although more than needed, I was still at slow speeds and nothing happened to me. But what I was more concerned about, even just after the fall, was my bike ;). It seems to also have taken the shock pretty confidently  :bowdown:. I can see my right indicator cover broken, which I shall replace. Another thing came to my notice was a crack in the right crank case (see image).


Although it spoils the aesthetics, and would take about $27 to get a new one, but does it really affect the functioning? Will it cause an oil leak?

On the right side ,as in the Ignition Timing disc is ? , no it doesnt leak oil , i have removed my perfect one from my old engine , to put on my 2001 , and the engine was full of oil , and not a prob ,

Im sure it just protection the iginition timing and points

No oil leak, at least not just as a result of that cracked cover.  Do you see what appears to be a round hole in item 11 in the diagram below?  That's exactly what it is; a round hole that's covered by the SUZUKI sticker.  There's no oil (directly) behind that cover; that's where the signal coils and pickups are.

On the other hand, the corresponding "bump" on the left side of the bike (item 14) DOES have oil behind it, so the SUZUKI sticker is fastened to a solid surface.

Alas all the adrenaline was useless, with the wet roads :(. To top it up, gas spill made it impossible to even stand on the road. But fate moved me to plan B when a guy asked me if I needed any help  :icon_mrgreen:

Thanks for the info Jay and Kerry, I'll probably leave it that way for a while, till I plan for next upgrades of the bike. The good point is that, I never had the need to focus on where the ignition timer was, this fall gave me something new to learn too  :thumb:

Yeah, definitely buy a set of frame guards.  I laid mine down and destroyed the same cover you did, and a month later put a pair of frame guards on and it should never happen again.  That part you'd need to replace is twice the cost of the guards, so it's almost crazy not to have them unless you hate the way they look.

I think you are taking about #14 in the diagram above which costs over $80, I damaged the #11 part which is $27 dollars.

In anycase, thanks for the frame guard pointer. At $40 I think its a steal. I will get one set, it surely should take the pressure of the mind.
