Hey what up?  I just put a new yoshimura trs pipe on my 500 but it still seems really quiet.  Is that just the design of it ar are these bikes really quiet.  Also there was this "exhaust packing" material in the original midpipe.  just before where i had to cut the old thing off.  I'm guessing this has a lot to do qith quieting the sound.  Will there be any negative side effects if thi sound deadening material where to be taken out of the pipe.?

I had holes in my 89's muffler, and at cruising speed I could NEVER hear that thing running.   I think honestly its just the nature of the beast.

It's never going to scream like an R6 if that's what you're looking for. It will make a nice lumpy n loud sound with a K&N plus a V&H FULL exhaust, but never scream.

Does your aftermarket can a open exhaust, or is it dampened ?

Did you remove the 'packing' from the mid pipe ?

Have you changed the air box to something like a K&N yet ?

Have you rejetted yet ? (This is something you really want to do)

The easier it is for your gs to breath the louder it will get, but not necessarily more powerfull. I usually wear earplugs if I'm going more than 45 minutes on mine. Mine has a K&N + V&H open exhaust. It's obnoxiously loud when you rev it, but can't "scream" like a 4 cylinder, it just doesn't rev that high.

Wide open V&H SSS pipe..........of course that's on 4 cylinders.  It screams though, It'll scare the holy crap out of you when you let it out to about 12k+

Did you already remove the baffle?  There's a small screw on the underside of the exit pipe, behind the muffler.  I'm not near my bike or I'd take a picture.  If you unscrew this you can remove the baffle that ships inside the TRS can.  I haven't tried it myself, but it'll probably help.

The midpipe should be wide open so the bike can breath. Pull that crap out!

Can someone post a link for the K&N box I would need for a 93? And also where is the air box located?

First, the airbox.  It is located between the carburetors and the battery box.  Here is one view ... of the air filter opening:

Here is another view, which labels just about everything BUT the airbox.  (It takes up most of the central portion of the diagram.)

Now for your first question.  You asked about a "K&N box" ... are you looking for a drop-in filter (that replaces the Suzuki paper filter in the airbox) ... or for a totally different "lunchbox filter" that covers the carburetor intakes in place of the stock airbox?  In the first case, check out [THIS PAGE].  In the second case, someone else will have to take over from here....
