Nice Videos Pablo. After seeing your first one I got hooked on the idea of RC crawlers and I'm going to get an HPI Wheely King and convert it into a full time crawler.

thanks Jake. I always try to play to the "scale-ness" of the rig, trying to make it appear as real as possible. You only see about 1/4 the tumble too, lol...

and I'm currently building a second rig, a Range Rover Sport. Here are poser shots with it sitting on the gwagon chassis. The chassis for the rover should arrive early this week and I'll start to assemble it. I have the rest of the parts already.



I added the front guard from another truck, bought the roof rack. I made the scale bungee cords, LV luggage, rope, off-road lights, Italian license plate, D rings, hilift jack and modified the wheel arches for the bigger tires before painting it. Also got true beadlock rims for it:

Where did you pick up the first one, I remember you mentioning  you didn't pay alot for it, you seem to do pretty well with it.

Have you seen the tamiya 3 speeds that they've started remaking?  One is a ford body and the other is an old Toyota hilux.  I really like the looks of those and they're versatile too.

Have you seen the tamiya 3 speeds that they've started remaking?  One is a ford body and the other is an old Toyota hilux.  I really like the looks of those and they're versatile too.

the first and the second rigs are about the same:
custom chassis using TLT axles and shocks. custom links using Traxxis link ends, stampede transmission, 55 turn lathe motor by Integy. They differ in details but essentially the same.

got both bodies from Nikko toys.

The 3 speeds (hilift= the ford, hilift hilux=toyota but both are the same except the body) are good but need tweaking to perform as well as mine. good starting platforms though. rccrawler.com has loads of info as well as scale4x4.com .  I prefer the scale elements so I run 1.9 wheels instead of the more popular (and more competent) 2.2 wheels.

by the way, the hilift hilux is a remake of the holy grail of scale trucks-the hilux which came out 25 years ago and are collectors items now...

Now I see, in one of your earlier posts you said something about the body being from a cheapo RC and I misread it as the entire car was.  I was pretty impressed with how well it climbed thinking it was just a 70-80 dollar toy.  Makes much more sense to me now.

I do have to say that 1.9's give it a much better scale look than the 2.2's  It really helps the rig fit into the elements better.

If you search around youtube you can find the original tamiya commercials for the hilux which are pretty awesome.  I really like the way the remakes look as well.

well, the rover has a rolling chassis...




its not complete as a rolling chassis as I'm missing a bracket to mount front upper links. Also need to adjust the wheelbase a bit...Still lots more to do.
