I went to my local Suzuki dealer to get the 40 pilot jets and 125 main jets everyone has been recommending for a stock GS upgrade. They had the main jets in stock and one pilot jet which I bought. The other pilot jet was on order. When I picked it up a week later and brought it home this one was a non-bleeder (no holes) and the other was a bleeder (has holes). Does anyone know which ones are correct for my 96 GS500?

Anyways, I've been reading all your posts about modifying the GS and I am thinking of the following performance mods for now (not really into cosmetics mods):

Performance:
- V&H timing advancer (currently bidding on Ebay as flash_gm)
- 15T front sprocket down from 16T
- braided front brake cable
- 125 main jets and 40 pilot jets
- Amsoil or Maxum synthetic oil (Exclusive!! Motor oil lab/dyno comparo test --> Oct 2003 Sport Rider Issue)

Motor oil article is pretty lengthy. e-mail or PM me if you want me to e-mail you a scanned copy :)

Others:
- handlebar risers for a more upright riding position
- "National" F-15 Shield (not sure about this one yet)
- frame slider or engine guard
- rear top rack

Thanks again for all your help (THIS FORUM ROCKS!!),

I would suggest the NON bleeder type.  I had some problems with the bleeder type.  I couldn't get my bike to idle.

Take the bleeder and exchange it for the NON bleeder.

Yep non-bleeder.

The national Cycle windscreens are nice, I have the F-16 and its great for keeping the wind off your chest and neck area. I dont think I'd be riding on the interstate unless I had it otherwise my hands would hurt from the deathgrip I tend to get when riding.

Another nice add-on if you like touring is a throttle rocker (ebay has them) makes your hands feel nice even on long rides.

I'd get progressive springs for the front forks also.
