I've looked through the prior post and can't find the size of the two allen head bolts that are holding the front caliper on.Anybody know?? thank's Ronin

I read "allen head bolts" and I thought, "He must have a pre-'96 bike."  Sure enough, your first post mentioned that you have a '94.

Starting in '96 (when the GS500E got a new front caliper) the allen head bolts were replaced with regular hex-head bolts:



My understanding is that both the calipers and the bolts are interchangeable.

So ... can I answer your question? Well, not directly.  But my '99 front caliper bolts take a 14mm socket, and I understand from [THIS OLD POST] by MarkusN that they are probably M10 x 1 x ??, where the 1 means "1 thread per mm" and the ?? means "however many mm long you want".

Maybe [THIS LINK] will work better for some folks?  It's the MrCycles diagram for the '89-'95 model years (K/L/M/N/P/R/S).  Display it full-size and look at the texturing around the bolt head.  Definitely not a regular hex-head bolt.

Would I bet my life that Suzuki didn't switch bolts in '95, while keeping the old-style caliper?  Mmmm, nope.

But there's another possibility, beRto.  Are you positive that you have a '95?  What's the second stamped character on your VIN plate?  Notice how my VIN plate says that my '99 was manufactured in 4/98....

Hmm, IIRC my (1998 model) accepts a 14mm socket front, and 12mm socket rear. I use locktite on the threads, and nail polish (red, because it's FASTER!!!!11) on the heads to show possible loosening.

Then again, my rear bolts are -not- OEM, after I hired a local shop to install a new rear tire and he forgot to put the rear caliper bolts in    http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=34254.0

For future reference they are 8mm allen head bolts..picked a socket up at Sears today.

Are you saying that the diameter of the threaded part of the bolts is 8mm, or that they take an 8mm Allen wrench ... or both?

Hi Kerry, The second letter is an "S" which Clymer tells me corresponds to the 1995 model year. The blue color also matches the table you've linked to. In conclusion, it's a '95! That being said, here's a picture of the caliper, hex bolts and all...   



I'm not too worried. Like I said, everything else has been completely stock so I don't imagine these bolts were changed. It is a bit confusing though.

make sure you get a torque wrench and properly torque your bolts. Also you loc tite. I had my front caliper fall off during track day. Lost two caliper bolts and a brake pad.
