I'm interested in this project as well. How hard is it to do? Has someone found a way to add a windshield?

Hey if anyone wants a GS-F headlight PM me; I'm taking the one off my bike within the next few days.
Good day to you!

How difficult is it  to mount the brackets to the forks? I haven't tried it yet as I fear i'll scratch the forks if the brackets are too tight.

bombshelter13

Mounting the brackets is dead easy, they basically just screw on. As far as scratching, put some foam tape on the inside of the bracket.

I have a E model, can some one tell me how they are mounting the f light to e headlight mounts? Can I use the ones there or do I need to order some other ones?
Can someone get some pics up close?

Thanks!

Hey if this thread is still going what did you use to connect the head light and the brackets? It looks a bit like a rivet but just wanted to make sure I got the best method to make sure the light doesn't come loose or shake a lot.

4+ years later and Im still getting pm's. Ill answer any questions that come up but I sold the bike about 2 years ago.

would doing this mod decrease the selling price of a gs500f?

or would it not affect the price at all?

I dont think it would affect anything. I sold my bike for $1800. This mod is really for people that crash their bikes or buy an F model with messed up fairings. I bought my 07 gs500F with 7k miles wrecked for 500$. My plans were to take fairings off and buy a headlight off ebay but then I got the idea to use the "F" headlight since it would retain factory wiring.

My new project is a 95 VFR 750 with single sided swingarm and I plan to use a GS500 headlight for that too.

Does anyone know if this bracket can be "re"-bent to fit a round headlight down the road? I was going to get the bracket soon just so I could convert without buying a new headlight... but I would like to get a round headlight in the future.

This thing rocks, I've been hunting for how to get a light like this onto my GS. Hate the circle light. I'm gonna give this a go I reckon

so we took off the Acerbis Alien headlight because I got a crazy idea to use the stock one. All the mounting tabs except 2 were broken so it was pretty much useless and if this idnt work I was just going to donate it. Came out 100000 times better then I thought it would plus its all stock wiring so there isnt any crazy wiring going on.  This is the look I have been going for since I bought the bike. Parts are the stock headlight, 10$ set of EMGO mirrors  plus a 12$ universa headlight mounting kit - all from denniskirk. All I had to do was bend the ends  of the headlight mounting kit to form to the headlight. It took me about 2-3 hours total because I also installed a stainless front brake line and bleeding it was a bish.

from my dennis kirk invoice

Side-Mount Headlight Brackets

- Part# 391615
Universal Mirror (2 come in the package)

Hey Mate, Do you have any specifics on exactly which tabs/mounting points on the 500F light you used to mount this up?

Cheers,
Dave

If anybody has done this on a pre-01 model, I hereby demand/request visual evidence.

I did this project within the last few months, and I had to grind some tabs down off of the headlight in order to mount it to the brackets. I also had to drill holes in the headlight for bolts to attach to the bracket.

So how do you like your bar set up. I just ordered some vortex mx bars. Oh one more thing how wide are your bars?

erbilabuc

wow 6 years later and still being done. I had to get rid of the GS years ago because I moved to hawaii. I built this 1995 VFR750 and wanted to use a gs headlight but for some reason the cheapest I could find when I was building it was 90$ shipped so I went with an 06 gsxr600 headlight and learned how to make my own  headlight mounts for about 3$.gsxr headlight, cbr 600 forks, r1 rear sets, gsxr tail, cbr600 gauges.
