I'm back in LA and I got a new ride.
This is my second 83 GPZ550.

I am thinking of keeping the other one and making it a track bike. If I get the courage to ask my girl.

John!    Long time no see!

What, you couldn't log in for 2.5 years because your handle is "John in LA" ... and you weren't actually in LA?

BTW, nice effect on the photo.  :thumb:  Oh yeah - and nice bike!  8)

Naw, I only had Ed's 2000 for a few months before my brother in Arkansas convinced me to sell it to him.  He's the same one that rode my '96 on our trip to British Columbia in 2002, so he had some experience with the GS.  He's taller than I am, so he had to get to used to the little thing all over again, but he's put more than 30,000+ miles on it with his daily 40-mile commute.

Ole Yeller (40K miles) has been sitting on my driveway under a cover, surrounded by snow for a couple months.  As it happens, I charged the battery overnight last night and actually started her up after work today.  (Whew!)  Before I take it anywhere, I want to clean the heavier-than-usual rust off the rotors.   (Got any ideas, JohNLA?  Wait - I remember what the tools in your toolkit looked like....  ;)  I know, I know ... they came that way.)

woohooo....... thats my kinda bike......a few of them have passed through my hands over the years and that one looks like a minter considering its 25 years old.. Looks like an  A3 version, its got the mono-shock rear-end that came after the unitrack (A2 versions), but its not got the anti-dive forks (A4s I think??). The original A1s had a twin-shock back-end. And its in the best colour, the red/whites were ok and the lime greens just didnt work.

If you were local, me and my chequebook would be asking if we could pay you a visit  :icon_mrgreen:

Congrats on the new Bike!

The second bike I ever owned was a red 1985 GPz550.  It was a great bike, till I loaned it to a friend and he wrecked it.

Nice, nice bike.  :thumb:
I looked at one a few years ago - guy had a nice one for sale somewhat locally, ~3 hours away or so, but it sold for more than I could afford at the time, so then I bought my little Ninja instead.

I'm confused. Was "Ed's bike" as GS or a GPZ?

Hey Kerry, I knew you were goung to give me a hard time for neglecting this place. Has it really been 2.5 years ? I did miss you cats :kiss3: Its hard to log on when your doing construction work 12 hours a day. I hardly touched my computer. I am so glad to be ack in LA and doing CG.
No Srinrath, that is not the brochure add. It's my photo with a new backround.
It will have to do until I can get down to the Disney Concert Hall for some proper photos.
My old GPZ's battery had died in less than a year and I missed work because of it :mad:So I started thinking it was time for a new ride. Thats when I checked Craigslist and found this cream puff with just 3500 miles on it and it was only a mile from my house.
Everything works. Even stuff I didn't know the bike did.
I even got the toolkit and yes it has less rust than my new GS's toolkit had.
Thanks everyone, for the kind words.

Yeah, your last post was on 8 July 2005 ... but I'm not one to talk.  I was MIA for about 2 years myself.

"Ed's bike" was the 2000 GS500E that I bought from GStwin.com member Ed_in_Az.  I flew down to Phoenix and rode it home.  I documented the trip ... rather poorly ... [HERE].

Very nice looking trip!

Did you go on this trip because the GS was such a great deal or just for the fun of it (given that at that time of year you were likely on vacation anyways)? I'm sure the answer is "both"!  :icon_mrgreen:

p.s. I searched the forums assuming you had already posted this info, but I couldn't find anything. If I just need to improve my search skills, please let me know. :)

Both, I guess.  As I recall, Ed sold me the (low-mileage) bike for $1600, so that gave me a good excuse to do something a little wild and crazy.  ;)

I couldn't find any hits using "reasonable" search terms, either.  But when all else fails, try this cool tip: Use a URL as your GStwin search term!

When I searched for the URL from that trip page...
... I got a nice, compact set of hits, a couple of which you might find interesting.

BTW, this tip also works for things like image filenames.  Handy dandy!  :thumb:

Aaaahh!!  I forgot all about rounding those up.  I've got something up in Salt Lake tonight, but I'll try to tackle this after I get back.

(Is anyone out there willing to confess that they have my TourMaster Cortech saddlebags?  :icon_rolleyes:)
