Busted Speedo

I wonder if anyone has seen this before? After pulling out onto the highway I look down to see my speed and see this!!

The top half of the speedo face has broken off and is sitting in the bottom half of the dial. At first I thought , no worries I'll just open it up and glue it back on. It seems its not that simple, I can't seem to open it up- I suppose that is to stop people winding their odo back. Will I have to source another unit? I've been thinking that I could just use a permanent marker to put some lines on the face but I don't think that will pass rego when it comes around.

I've never done it myself, but I understand that it is a pain to gain access to the gauge internals.

Then again, srinath goes on to say (in that same thread):

Opening that guage is easy ... use a pick and a small screwdriver.
Closing is easy as well ... sit it on a cloth and sue a drift type punch but have the tip set to sit on that edge ... in the end ... it will entirely even out ... and last part use a PVC pipe or aluminum pipe and sit it on the edge and knock away ...

It may be easier to get new gauges? Of course you have to deal with the mileage issue on the new ones (i.e. mileage may be quite different that on your bike).

Mine had a crack across its face just like that when I bought it

I opened the clocks few times to fix the resettable odometer which sticks at 9km and the thing broke off just like yours , I glued it back again

with super glue ,touched up black paint with cd marker and you can barely see the damage ,as stated the hardest part is getting inside of the damn thing

Thanks heaps guys-  Doesnt sound too hard to open it up, I think I'll give a go this weekend- thanks Jared. Thanks too for the offer of a spare gauge coll but I'm in Australia, don't know how much the freight would be... and we use Km/hr down here- we also drive on the lefthand side of the road
