Not a GS but still...speedo cables keep breaking.

Brand new cable lasted, maybe, 10 miles, then sheared off at the drive.  This is the third or fourth cable to break on this bike but they others were always old, used ones...this was brand new.  What could be causing this problem?

Take the sheared off end of your new busted speedo cable and stick it in the speedo and spin.  If you can't turn the input shaft gripping the cable stub VERY lightly between thumb and index finger you have a speedo bearing problem.

Beyond that, make sure you're not making any tight radius bends.  Try to keep the bends at a radius of at least 6", preferrably more.

I'm guessing gummed up bearings...

I'll check the speedo...but I'm wondering more and more about just rigging up an electric feed speedo.

Anyone use an electric speedo (other than Veypor)?

Probably more accurate.  I used to have a $15 bike speedo from walmart.  It would read up to 99 MPH.

I will be hitting up wal-mart to see if they still carry such a critter.  I have not seen any but I must admit I have never specifically looked.  I've used a number of bicycle speedos and have always had a problem with speeds greater than 55mph, but I've began thinking that might just be because of where I mount the magnet.  I always mount it on the rim, but I don't think the sensor has enough time to pick it up there.

I have a Acewell Unit , its mounted to the rim *the magnet* and the sensor is on the fork , i run it with my Gs speedo to set it just right , and it works perfect ,

In GBP , i payed 80 pounds , so 160 bucks or so
