I picked up a complete set of 2003 GSXR1000 turnsignals (front and rear) on ebay a few days ago for $50.00. I got in a major bid war with another guy but ended up beating him by 5 seconds with my final bid. Hopefully I get them in the mail this weekend. I want to shorten the stalks before mounting them. If anyone has a how-to for these signals, let me know.

I'm glad my pictures are helping this forum. My flushmounts are in california ar the moment so they will be here hopefully on Saturday. I will then update with new pics. I'm just wondering why everyone here blocks their number plate.... Is their a certain reason?

nascarkeith

I have just always blocked mine to keep people from getting my info.  I know they can still get it but why make it easy for them.

I guess that PPL cover their plates because it's quite easy to find the bike if you have the plate number...
so this would make stealing your bike easier if someone wanted to do it  :dunno_white:

It's just logical thinking, not educated statement  ;)

Has anybody else put the GSXR mirrors onto their bike?  I'm looking at doing this to my own and I was curious if anyone else did it and could offer up a second opinion on whether or not they liked it.

Hey all, I just put the katana mirrors on (and they look sweet!), but now i have the holes in the fairing.  Where can I go to get some plugs for the holes, any advice?  Thanks!

Also, with the Katana mirrors,  you can just reuse the current mounting points and all you have to do is drill a hole in the fairing for the wiring to go through.  EXTREMELY easy and fast.  I'll try and put up some pictures soon.

A cheap way to cover the holes would be to get a decal and cover it.

Yeah I was going to put some flush mount led blinkers there as well to cover the hole but it didn't work too well. (They weren't very flush with the fairing)

So now I'm thinking of cutting some reflective sticker (probably black) to cover it. When I do, I'll post some pics.

you could use fiberglass, patch the hole, then sand a little, and then touch up with the appropriate color.  :thumb:

I picked up this full set of stock GSX-R 1000 turn signals off a 2003 for $50.  I really like the way they looked and the fact that they are OEM DOT approved signals gave me piece of mind that I would be seen when I need to turn. Once I got them and test fitted one. I decided very quickly that I wanted to shorten the stock stalks to pull them in as close to the body as possible. After some planing, drilling, cutting, dremeling and a trip to the hardware store, this was the outcome. I am very satisfied with the looks of them compared to the stock GS signals. They seem to fit the lines of the bike so much better than those big "bug eye" looking blinkers. I think the stalks also look like they are actually meant to be this way. I did notice they flash slightly faster than the originals but it is barely noticable...nothing like the super fast flashing when a bulb is burned out. Anyway, just thought I'd share. Let me know what you think!

can you please describe how you shortened the stalks. I got a pair of those signals laying in my garage waiting to be mounted on my bike ;) but I don't like the long stalks either, so I'd appreciate any help of yours!

thanks in advance

In order to shorten them, I disassembled the turnsignal and removed the original stock. From there I cut the stock just behind the first ridge with a hack saw. Then, I took a dremmel with a sanding grinder to smooth out the messy cut. After that, use a small drill bit to drill a hole straight through the stock. Step up 2 more drill bit sizes to make the hole larger. Buy #10 machine screws 1.5-2.0 inches long with washers, lock washer and nut. You want to make sure the holes you drilled are slightly smaller than the screws...this allows you to actually screw it in the hole it will keep the bold tight and unable to rotate as you tighten the nut when mounting. Once you screw the bold all the way through the stock, reassemble the signal. I had to slighly modify the original black plastic washer piece for the fronts to make some room for the screw and wires to pass through the small hole. Once mounted, I used the original wires and connected them with crimp "butt" connectors. That's it. Good luck!!

How ya doin.               Well ive been reading through your posts re this turn signal mirror thing and i think its a great idea.

some food for thought..    i found this - remote turn signal indicators ( for car mirrors ) to make em look like the fancier BMWs and MERCs

Wireless.....yes Wireless  just stick them on ,maybe they could be re hashed , loose the mirror section and keep the flashing light part sand fit to the fronts of the standard GS mirrors with some modding.  Kinda dear but what are you paying for OMEO mirrors to try to do the job.
Might be useful for mounting other places aswell.

just a thought..   :dunno_white:

Hi all, I thought that those of you who might use rear throw over panners might be interested in this mod I have produced for my GS. I found that the panniers rubbed on the rear of the rear indicators and so constructed some extension brackets for them, so as to relocate the indicators about 4 to 5 inches rearwards. here's a link to my blog where the process is explained, together with pics  :) Please feel free to use and abuse the design if need be  :thumb:

I fitted some 2003 gsxr indicators to the front of the bike (just used the stock gsxr backing plate on the inside of the fairing and screwed it down tight.

Doesn't look too bad. So there's another option for those considering what to do.

Next I'll be fitting these to the rear 9and hopefully there they will stay.

more pics soon.

galas - thanks very mcuh for this, maybe you could start a new thread (or the wiki ?) with your posts and pictures ? forgive me if you have already and i didn't notice it. this is very nice information. :)

Okay I got my turnsignals in hand but I'm a bit confused! These mirrors are heavy. So you just took the mounting plate and screwed it on. If that is the case how well are they holding up? It seems after awhile it is going to break the fairing. Anyway to see what the back looks like?

Only other alternative we were thinking of was creating an extending block and doing it that way so there is no pressure except for where the mounting bracket already is in place and it spaces them out further a wee bit!

Help please!
