Our university SAE team builds a formula racer each year. Last year we used a 600arrrrarrrr motor. But that's about all we used from bikes.

It got me thinking. If you had to build a go kart using only gs500 parts what would you do. I would post what I would do but I'm getting kicked off the computer right now.

Well, can you build your own frame?  I'm assuming so.  In that case, I think the GS would be a great motor and drive train for a go cart if you changed the gear ratio.  suspension would suck, as would any other part.  Give me a roll former, bunch of 1" tubing, and a welder and i'll have it done in the morning.   :icon_mrgreen:

When I was in HS we used a Yamaha YZ250 (screaming fast motorcross engine) to build a go-cart and it was freaking scary.  We got it to 95 on a 2 lane road 1 time.  Then the year after we used a 4cyl Beetle motor and built a larger cart, didn't go as fast becuase the engine was crap, but sure wore out tires.

Lastly, the funnest thing we ever built was we needed a front loader/forklift, but didn't have one so we converted an extra combine (missing the husker) into a front loader overnight.  Lots of beer, lots of welding, lots of hydraulic = dangerous machinery for men to play with.

I'd build a single-seat all aluminum dune buggy using large ATV tires.  Just because...

But I'd rather do it with an SV1000 engine and transmission.   :icon_twisted:
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?
