I loosened the throttle cable adjuster nut at the carbs until it had no tension on the cable, until you twisted the throttle. Then I adjusted the throttle idle screw until I reach 1200rpm.Sounded fine...took it out and seemed to have about half the power. It bogged when giving it gas.

So I adjusted the throttle cable adjuster nut unitil it atleast touched the top of the cable holder at the carb.Idle shoot back up to 4000-5000 rpm with it warmed up and choke off! Turned out the idle screw,no effect...When I took off the cable for thr rejet the nut was almost half way down.

I checked the float bowls after the short test run and almost no gas came out of the left and a little more came out of the right.I'm I having fuel a starvation problem? The PO had the fuel ines switched in a non-stock manner but it ran.I lengthen the fuel lines to be able to reach the fuel chicken on the tank when removing the tank.I placed them back like they were from the PO.Would the longer fuel lines be a cause?

Ok..went back out and tried to get fuel to come out of float bowls on prime middle and run no fuel came out.I have about 1 gal of fuel in the tank.Is it possible for the petcock to be a total loss?

It's a 93gs500er new plugs.Just rejetted to 125mains and 40 pilots with 1 washer on the needles.2 1/2 turns out on the air screws. With a foam air cleaner. We are having great weather and I'm stuck! :icon_rolleyes: What do you'all think?

make sure you have the throttle cables' lower adjustment screw (under the carb body) in the hex recess. it helps to lock the throttle cable in place. adjust the throttle cable (at the carbs again) so that there is just enough slack to not move the butterflies until you twist the throttle. there is an amount of slop called for in the manual, but i play it by feel.

fully loosen the idle adjuster screw (big one on the bottem) so it doesn't touch the throttle assembly at all. start the bike with the choke, hold the throttle as need at the grip and release the choke. give it a little while to warm up. once it's warm, give it just enough idle adjuster screw to keep it idling at 1200-1500.

now shut it off, and make sure your choke moves freely. don't trust the lever at the bar, if the cable or choke assembly is in a bind, it won't appear at the lever on the bars.

check your air mixture screws now.

start it again, see if the idle changed. it shouldn't have sat long enough to get cold.

does it idle ?
does it respond to throttle properly ?

shut it off and check your plugs. are they nice and carmel colored ? wet ? black ? white?

the plugs will tell you allot.

you mentioned the floats also. sounded more like you were checking flow than float height. they should be the same height, while the bike is level on the center stand. there are threads on the forum that show WITH PICTURES HOORAY how the float heights should be set. check yours accordingly.

have you checked for air leaks at the intake pipes ? (between the carbs and the head)

check your vacuum lines too.

Hello,Ohgood
Yeah the rubber intakes are new and firmly in place.I'll be out to adjust that nut again..I'll have to take the tank off to get to it good..and try it out thank's dude...I'll let ya know.. :thumb:

How do you know you have a gallon in the tank.  The only way to KNOW is to fill it up.  There is always some gas in the tank that can't get out -- you're still out of gas when that happens!  Its happened to every one of us at some time or other.

Try gas first!

Well I had the tank off this winter to rejet and paint. When I filled it I filled it with a one gallon gas can.

that could be your problem! how long has the gas been sitting?
drain the tank and fill it up with some fresh gas.

check the condition of your petcock

you should be able to get some flow from the float bowls. Tap it lightly with the soft side of screw driver just incase you have a stuck float

good luck!

Oh it was empty to the core...LOL and I put fresh gas in it.I will try the stuck float trick, sounds good...And since it may be gravity feed now I'll try more gas to press it on down the line...Thank's guy's
Here's a picture of the Throttle cable nuts. When I took them off they were half way down the shaft. Now to get it to run below 4000rpm I have them all the way up.Is this what your spacing  looks like?

ok, that's part of the problem - fill the tank ! gs's LOVE full or partially full tanks ! it will decieve you if you believe there is 'one gallon' or so in the tank and suck air. our tank petcock isn't the best design, nor is the older tank. :) filler up !

your lower nut (oh man this is gonna sound weird) isn't in the hex proper. there is a hex formed into the bottom of the carb's body, which the cable, and cable housing passes through. .... hmm, i don't have any pictures of mine .. anyway, the nut that is JUST UNDER the carb's body - look at it from underneath, with  a mirror if you like. you'll see what i mean by the hex that lowest nut is supposed to fit into.

i like mine with very little slop, almost none. just enough there isn't tension on the cable.

hope this makes sense :)

Yeap..I've been reading about the fuel starvation prob..and figure that's half of it.
The lower hex nut...I can't seem to get it in the holder.I see what you mean.Just seems I don't have enough of the threaded shaft to play with...When I pull up the cable to fit the lower nut in the hex holder..my butterfly pulls up also, causing the high idle. Can I gain some cable by adjusting the cable at the throttle grip? Tommorrow I'm going to filler up and go to work.I'm going to ride that bugger by the end of the week if I have to stay up all night! Thur and Fri it's going to be in the upper 60's.Thank's again...Steven
