Well, I've always wanted some kind of saddle bags...but never liked anything on the market...thus I created something.  I see people do this every now and then and I happened to have everything handy to do it so ta da....maggot bags...

I just bolted the cans directly to the sissy bar mounts on the grab bar.  The way I did it I think I'll still have the ability to slap the sissy bar on without any trouble...I love having that thing in case Kalee every decides to ride with me (she has yet to on this bike :( ).  It needs one more mount, though, because it's just a bit wobbly on the front.  Doesn't effect anything but it's going to rattle the shaZam! out of anything inside the cans.

They are 20mm ammunition cans, if anyone is interested.  They cost $20 at the salvage joint in Plainview, Texas.

You might also notice my forks are now powdercoated black...they look so much better that way!

Lastly, my CB750/4 speedometer.  reads 140mph...also reads 14% fast on the stock CX drive...so now I can nearly go 100mph (indicated) and not get pulled over!  Makes cruising at 70mph (indicated) much nicer!

did you flip the stock bars, or stock bars from something, upside down?

cb900 bars I think.  I wanted clubmans but they don't clear the forks and they pull way too far back.  This is an adequate substitute for solo riding until I can get around to fabbing something up.  I run MX bars some of the time.

nowaitaminute, ive never seen kalee, so ill have to trust your reply as fact. if she goes riding with you, youll have to remove the boxes, unless shes got an awfully skinny ass. otehrwishe shed be a tad uncomfortable ( cases rise up past teh passenger pad)

Nah...the seat is huge.  even with me sitting on it I clear the cans completely.  I will have to get her on it, though, to make sure.  Moving it around a bit wouldn't be an issue.

kk, also check any sharp corners. im liking the look tho, different and quite useable. anotehr question, do you have the bottoms secured/bolted?, and have you ever solved teh coolant loss issues?

The bottoms aren't supported.  I'm waiting to actually use them to see if it's needed.

The coolant issue was easily fixed...the seventh or so time I had the motor out of the bike.  There's a little spacer that fits inside the water pump impeller....well, it's not on any of the reassembly directions or fiches so I never knew it was there.  It was missing out of the new impeller I installed.  I just happened to compare the old impeller to the new one the last time I had it all apart.  Stuck the old one back in and presto...no more problems....except flushing at that water out of my case (I'm starting to think, three gallons of oil later, that it will never all come back out).

yamahonkawazuki

youll need the supports if you put anyhting heavier in it, heck even a piece of flatbar or something like that would suffice

I've gotta send you some pics of my buddys cx that he just built.  Total rat rod with springer seat and linkages in the rear instead of springs.  Now a hard tail.  Great fun little bike with custom exhaust
GS500E with a bunch of cool stuff!

Would like to take a minute to say...never buy a vbulletin license.  if it expires and they think you're still using the software, they will invade and disable your website...which is why the pictures I posted earlier are now gone.

I have the originals so if I need to upload them somewhere else, I can, but think I got my VBulletin thing figured out.  I got one of the techy dudes from my host service to call me up and walk me through the process and clear it all up.  Thanks man!

trumpetguy

I was just talking about making some bags like that.  But DUDE, you have to spray paint them black!  Or paint the rest of the bike Army green.  O0

I'm debating which as we speak...likely they'll be black.  My gear matches a black bike.  If I got with olive drab I'll have nothing that matches haha.

ben2go

I almost dun sumpin like dat las year usein smaller cans.I might still do it.  :thumb:

The drab makes it look like a hot rodded service bike from WW2.
PICS are GONE never TO return.
