Gs Gauges On Katana Front End.. Cost? Free

At the start i wanted a custom gs 500 , bought a headlight then i sold it later on for my money back , bought a acewell and cut up a pair of 1996 gauges *they looked old and not very sporty , but i couldnt help thinking that there was a big gap, and it didnt look right , so i asked my mums boyfriend to make a bracket for me , and we took some measurements , and he found a bit of stainless at work , mounted them today , fits like a damn glove , the pics i have are with me withg out  using washers for a tight fit , but its not moving now ,i have 2 go to work  and for anyone who wants the kat front end upgrade ,but doesnt want to waste money on a digital speedo , being i thought some one would steal it anyways!! *leaves me with a as new Acewell for any uk buyers!*

Ill get pics of the brackets with a drawing of size and measurements

That looks good, almost like factory. I'd love to see some pictures or drawings of what you did. I was planning on just having the mounting tabs welded on to my kat 600 top clamp. But this may be a great cheap alternative. How sturdy is it?

i didnt even use washers or tighten it up all the way , as it was a test fit , and it doesnt move , id say better than stock already

This is the last thing I have to sort out before I can finally ride. That and bleed my brakes, which I'm not looking forward to.

Don't be sorry for the CM.  Anyone with half a brain can either just work in CM's or do the simple math.  You could probably find something in hardware store for a few bucks that would be close enough to those brackets that it could be modified with a dremel and some patience.

Looks great Jay!  You can't even tell that it's not supposed to be that way.

We might have to do some talking about that acewell, shipping really isn't that bad for smaller items.

It comes with a wire for the Tach , that goes round teh HT lead , then a magnet epoxyed onto the wheel , and Senser on the fork leg , imput the size of the wheel and ur good to go

Does the bracket bolt up to the bolt for the clip-ons?

yep , then a washer... Bracket. washer ,nuts mounted on to the bottom of the yoke

So you don't use any of the rubber dampers or stock hardware?

Nope. those bolts to attached the clip ones are Bolted down tight , and its 0.1 cm Stainless steel , and then washers attaching the unit to the the brackets , they dont move , i took it for a quick test drive at 40 mph , they still didnt move , or the same if not less then stock

How did you bend the bracket? I don't know how well I could make those 90 degree bends with my limited tools.

My mums boyfriend make them at work , i recon u could use a vice and a hammer to bend the metal get a long piece of steel Like 20 cm , then measure 6.1 cm , then put it in a vice , use a hammer to bend it to 45 degrees against the vice , then measure 3 cm  , and repeat , the big hole is 10mm i think , and the smaller ones are 6 mm

well i could have saved myself 80 quid , if i had got these brackets before ,  considering i think these could be made for cents , a do a perfect job . ill ask him how he made them and do a write up on t'wiki

Guages are best rubber mounted. In fact it may be the only thing all the bike manufacturers have agreed upon ... OK maybe that tires need to be round ... but this is second ...
I dunno what will happen if they aren't, but Just my thought.

i may go find the rubber gromits off the old clocks and use them but the steel isnt going to bend at all , and it stays soild at 40 mph , i dunno seems fine to me .
