GS500 questions for new owner

Hi,
I'm a new rider and about to pick up a used GS500 (2004) that is for sale in my area.  I have a few questions regarding the bike...what should I look for in a used GS500 (potential problem).  Also, are there any common issues associated with GS500 in general or perhaps specifically for the 2004 year model?  Thanks for all your help & inputs.
