This is what happened to my coating and chromer. They tried to dispose of their waste and make it look like an accident. They still have one of my headers.I am currently looking for a new coating/chroming/plating company.Complete story below on the county news.

They had me try to set up a group deal.Deal was have 10+ headers by this coming monday and they would do them for %25 to %35 off standard price. They jerked me around. They ask for me to buy a set amount of satin black and steerling silver ceramic as a good faith deposit.I did on the black because I wanted my header black at first.I went to have some headers done and they had used the coating I ordered.I paid $150 for the coating. That's enough to do a set of 3 GS exhaust systems.I finally got my money back and made the agreement that no coatings would be ordered until the headers where delivered. Then I put half the money down and other half when I pick them up.I know some of the coatings have a short shelf life and this was their reason behind using my black coating. They didn't think I was serious about the deal even though I pre purchased $150 worth of coating. Now I have to ship anything that needs to be coated/chromed/polished to Charlotte,NC or else where.

f%$king pieces of useless shaZam!.

No wonder they're dumping their waste on county roads.  They haven't the first clue in hell how to run a business!

Good thing you got out of them for just a header.
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

So far they will be stuck with paying for the clean up,repair/replace damaged vehicles, court fines/fees,loss of business license,no chance of obtaining another business license, loss of the property they bought in my town for their business, their house where there business was located, attorney's fees and I'm sure there will be more. It's already estimated that they have done between $500,000 and $650,000 worth of damage to public and private property. They may have to replace some of the worst sections of road because the chemicals are dissolving away the road surface.I didn't realize the acid was so strong for plating.I knew it wasn't good for your skin, but dissolving pavement is really strong.  :o :o :o

Seems pretty fair, I'd like to see a least a little jail time though. I just can't stand it when people are so lazy that they can't dispose of something properly. Usually it's just trash, but this takes the cake.

Fry them!

I deal with site cleanups, i work for the state of California (Dept of Toxic Substances Control) if this was in CA.. lord help them. Not sure what SC state will do.

Plating shops inherently are dirty esp if its heavy metal plating (chrome, nickel, cadmium, Gold). I wonder what they spilled and surely does not look like it was an accident that they left a valve open for 12 miles. First off, shouldnt be using an authorized 'transporter' to move the plating waste?

They spilled the waste from 2 10,000 gallon chrome and nickel plating tanks. They will receive jail time plus the damage costs I mentioned above.

How did they load 10,000 gallons in a truck? What did they have it in to dump it?

They were trying to get away from paying transportation and disposal costs. Those things (in CA) are expensive. The funny thing, why didnt they just go somewhere remote and dump if they were gonna dump?

But then we (clean up folks like myself) would have to play find the needle in the haystack.. like I am playing right now.

Specialized tanker trucks are used for Hazmat. I wonder if they had their own pumping truck. I dont know the laws in SC, but if you got a pumping truck you got your transporter right there!

He had the tanks on a trailer, pumped the waste over to them, drove down the road a ways, pulled the drain caps, and took off. They drove around the area in circles letting the tanks drain. They're ignorant red necks. The even confessed to how they did it.

oooh burn!!!

I guess in this economy, doing that and going to jail for a few years doesnt sound bad.. after all free healthcare and free food!
The state is never going to get them to pay up the full remediation costs, its the tax payers that are going to eat that and the environment. At least one good thing if the cleanup occurs fast, the damage wont be too bad.

It was a fast clean up but it still did damage to the roads. It will require replacing sections of the roads.
