Tachometer wiring bolts

I had to remove my tachometer and remove the three wiring screws.  Now I can't seem to get them back in.  Is there some kind of trick or do I need to remove the glass?

blitzo

well, I played with it for about 2 hours.  I had to shake the inside around until I could see the screw holes and used a toothpick to align them.  I think I must have damaged my tach though because it no longer works.  Before I order a new one is there any way I can make sure that my tach is really dead?  I was wondering if there is a way to take a multimeter to the tach wires.

What year is your bike?Unless you dropped the tach on a hard surface then it's prolly something simple like a bad connection.

It is a 2004.  I double checked the connections and it looks good to me.  Only thing I can think of is I cracked the circuit board is chipped a piece of solder putting the screws in.

It is an electrical tachometer.

From your description, it does sound like the circuit interface has come off its internal mounting.

You could hack into it by one of several methods noted here on this site (and others). If you do not and choose to obtain a new one, I would like to autopsy yours for the benefit of the GS community (and my curiosity of course).

I will be happy pay shipping and an agreed upon fee for the carcass.

All I have are the pre 2003/04 mechanical tachs, several of which have been put under the knife.  :o  If we work a deal, I will post the results here for everyone's benefit.

This does sound "Abby Normal"  ("Young Frankenstein" joke)

I popped the glass bezel off and sure enough I have a nice screw mark in the circuit board.  Must have been when I first started trying to insert the screws.  There was a little piece of rubber glue that looks like it held the tach to the plastic housing, this piece of glue had broken off at the plastic housing side.   Any one know of any where I can get one soon from, I am sure most places would have to order one in first.  I would like a replacement as soon as possible.  Starwalt if you still want the tach let me know, I would have no problem sending it off.  The circuit board looks very repairable, but I don't have the time to fix it.

Glad you got to the bottom of the problem but you still need a tach unless you repair that one. You wouldn't live anywhere near Greenville, South Carolina would you? If so we could take it to the Skunk Works here and have a go at it.

Regardless, my previous offer stands. PM me and we can work out the details.  Yours would be the first exposed to the group and I would be happy to pick apart the electronics inside.

Sledge! Hello! I am probably going to Holland in early September. What's the weather like then? I know it is not the UK but would a little water between countries muck around with the weather that much?

Ben2go - I was looking for a Partner in Charge of this venture, you'll do fine. Sledge has dibs on that side of the pond. That leaves Canada, South America, Africa, India and Australia to go to complete our global empire.   :icon_rolleyes:

All interested parties should send a certified bank check (cheque for those in the EU) to my Nigerian Bank account. I only require US$1, but make it for US$10,000 and I will send you another check for the balance later.  ;)

I am up in PA.  Planning on getting a new tach.  I was wondering if any online parts suppliers actually stocked their parts and not ordered it when someone places an order.  I don't want to wait 2 weeks for a new tach..lol  Going to call a few places tomorrow it see if I can get one overnighted.  Yeah I will send you my old tach when I get a new one.  Donating it to community research.
