Finally getting around to reading this beautiful thread...lot's of really neat people here *sheds a tear*...

mmkay...I'm Ron 36 y/o male, married with two beautiful children (6y/o daughter, and 2 y/o son) and a big strong 1st generation Norwegian wife.  Still asking myself why she followed me to this country...

I've basically grown up on the back of motorcycles.  My dad would take me around on his old '69 Yamaha DT175 when I was two or three.  He moved up to an MX250 a couple of years later and my mom got the 175.  Yup, a biker family.  First bike at age 6 was a Honda 50 (called it the "Apple") lots of fun!  I could go on, but it's been non-stop with bikes ever since....from YZ's and CR's in the dirt, to GSXR's , Ninja's and CBR's on the street.  I've backed off those bikes and now own the more sensible GS500.

I'm a physical therapist by training, but now sell PT/OT/ATC and Chiropractic equipment and devices to my former collegues.

FlyNena (Becca) and I met on this board and are riding with one of her other friends...we'd love to have some other Puget Sounders join us for a ride some time.

Again, it's VERY nice to get to know you all.... :thumb:
GS500E....back where it all began....again.

Hey all, my name is Brendan, 26 years old, and the GS is my first bike.  I grew up in Chicago riding on the back of my dad's 77 Triumph Bonneville 750 (classic bike).  Since then the family moved to VA and the Triumph layed dormant for years in my folks basement.  Last summer I got a wild hair up my ass and rebuilt the Triumph bit by bit with a buddies help.  When it fired up for the first time in years and I took it out..I was done, I had to have my own bike
fast forward one year....now I am the proud owner of a 95 GS 500, and I love it.   I now live in Northern VA with my girlfriend of two years, and we are relocating to Richmond, VA in mid July (hopefully we will have some sun by then :x )  I haven't seen anybody post that they are from that area, but I am looking for riding partners so let me know.

Alot of different people out there from all walks of life!! Kind of makes you think why we all can't get along in the world.

Name is Dave.  28 years old Guelph Ontario which is an hour west of Toronto.  '94 GS 500 is my first street bike grew up on a farm in the Niagara Peninsula riding dirt bikes ('83 xr100, '85 cr 80 - best bike I have ever owned, what fun - '84 RM 125 which I still have and just got running after storing for ten years)  Got the GS last spring and have been enjoying it but since I walik or bicicle to work (government worker, ministry of Agriculture and food) I don't get too many opportuniites to ride.  Hobbies right now are renovations on my first home, farming back in Niagara, Hockey and hunting whenever I can, weightlifting, my girlfriend and my dog (springer spaniel)  6'3", 210 lbs but still haven't outgrown the GS.

Cheers

Oh and hello to all of the Dutch board members.  Both parents born in Netherlands, visited my family's farm near Dinxperlo (De Heurne) last summer, beautiful country, more two wheeled vehicles than I have ever seen before in my life.  The flee markets in Amsterdam are just packed with used leathers and bike gear. Bought a testile jacket for $50 Euro's of a make I have never heard of Damen Motorsports, it's not veery good I don't think but I can use it as a ski jacket when I get something better.

I'm in Portsmouth, about an hour and a half south of Richmond. You need to check out Va. Int'l Raceway in August for the AMA Double Header. It's probably a 3 hour ride for you. Hit Rt. 460 in Petersburg and head west. We've got some guys riding out from Portsmouth. Maybe we can catch up with you.

Hey, I'm 57 but catching up fast on Jack. .
Came by my bike genes honestly, my mother rode on grandad's Brough Superior and later a Douglas Dragonfly in the 20's and 30's usually in the coolerbox sidecar, from which he sold icecream at the summer horse races in Norwich England.
Learned on my Dad's BSA Bantam in London, then Lambretta Li 150, before sharing a 500  Speedtwin, in it's day similar to the GS500. Moved to  a Yamaha 350 in Hong Kong for 3 years joined by a bent forked 750 Norton Commando.
Job: Run a claims dept for an industrial insurance brokerage firm.
Married in Rockwood (just down the road from DGDM in Guelph) 33 years to the same woman who does join me on the road, 2 'kids' in their 20's.
Got the bug again 18 months ago, still trying to decide whether to keep the GS or get a tasseled Goldwing with stereo and a 16 quart cooler.
We don't really know what we're doing and even when we do, it doesn't seem to help. Bono

I'm Jake from Pittsburgh.  I'm 31 and I've been married for 7 years to Melissa ( see the "I have the coolest wife post" from lat week). We have a two year old son Isaac who is the coolest miniature human ever.  HIs favorite words are "dada bye bye bike...VROOOOM"  I promise to post a pic soon of him in full tuck on my bike cuz it's hilarious.

Anyway, I work for the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing as an Anatomy and Physiology instructor.  I also teach A&P and Biology at some of our other local colleges on the sly.

The GS is my second street bike, well actually my forth, but the second running one that I own.  My first bike is a 1967 Yamaha YCS1 180 2-stroker that I absolutely love to death, but it's getting a little too old to be my daily rider anymore.  By the way I believe everyone needs to start out on a small <200cc street bike.  What a great learning experience.
I also have a 71 Suzuki T500 in pieces and a 1980 Suzuki GS 450 (can you spell predecessor?) that I occaisonally think about getting running again. By the way, if anyone has ever seen the T-500's carbs, they are freakin' huge. That's the main reason I took the bike, that and it's called the Titan.

In my spare time I"m also working towards a PhD in epidemiology at Pitt, and this board is giving me some great research ideas dealing with motorcycling issues.

Well I guess that's about it except for the stuff about the extra digits and the vestigial thrid nipple but that's for another post.  Also, I don't actually dress dead bodies for a living.

JakeD-getting your nipple pierced is not crazy. Killing a drifter to get an errection? Now that's crazy!

Jake, if you really want a good epidemiology project, how about the long-term effects of motorcycling on hearing.  It would be a difficult and complicated study to do, what with all the confounding variables, but I think it would be a great service to the motorcycling community.  Good luck with your research.  :thumb:

Michael,

that's a good one I hadn't thought of.  I've been thinking alot lately about the hp restrictions and learner's licenses that some european countries use.  I know there are already comparisons out there between those countries and the US, I need to do some reading and see if I can't come up with something.  Or I could just dress up in the hazmat suit and chase Anthrax :thumb:

Interstingly, several states and territories here in the Land of Oz have just changed their rules, so that now the GS500 is learner-legal.  About time someone in the Transport Dept got a synapse or two!

JK_Minneapolis

Hey all!

John from Minneapolis here. I've been on this board (posting a few here and there) for a few weeks now. I'm a new rider, half-way through my MSF course with a recently-acquired GS500 in the garage. (Anyone in the area have a Dremel I can borrow? ;) )

I am 33, married, and have a great 10 year old daughter who thinks I'm nuts! I am still (amazingly) employed at a software company as a technical writer and looking forward to some time away from the cubicle this summer on my GS500.

Cheers everyone!
