I understand the topic of this thread very well.I use paypal to help protect me and so far I haven't been let down.I only make cash payments in person and I only send money orders to people I know or trust. There's only a few people gotten taken for money here. It's a risk, buyer beware.Know your seller.

I'm with the "things are fine the way they are" crowd, buyer beware, look up the guy yourself, talk to him, blah blah.

I like the idea i have ben ripped off many times in the past and that would make me more comfortable with buying.

i like the 30days & 30 posts. i have been on here for 2 years & don't post much. mostly lurk & read. i have bought some stuff. (carb tweaking from the buddha, ignition advance, rear rotor, a box of misc. bits, cdi, & the last carbon fiber hugger :flipoff: . sold some stuff too, my old v&h (sikdmax), the cdi that i apparently did not need,  some other stuff that i can't remember right now. all of this with a pretty low post count (i hate typing). i think paypal offers a level of protection that does not hinder the newbie nature of our beloved bike. i hate to put too many restrictions, but we till need some sort of filter. ithe 30 post minimum sounds good, most scammers are too lazy to put in the effort. i think common sense & paypal works for me.

This is completely un necessary. People just need to start using the feedback system. I've been stiffed twice on trying to buy a motor here. One guy still has the nerve to post after ditching everyone he owed parts too, and moved to canada.

Even though I am a new member here, I have been posting for years on other forums and have delt with many online transactions. It is never a bad idea to be careful dealing with someone with a low post count but I have seen long time members be just as shady as the guy with 3 posts. I have to agree with the "use common sense" rule. Paypal is a great tool to keep both parties safe...so use it!! Get on the phone with the person too and feel them out before sending them a wad of cash. I believe in what goes around comes around...be honest when buying and selling and ship the item ASAP. You would want the same in return. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly

The member that stiffed me has over 2000 posts.

Just like ebay, the feedback system needs to be used more consistently, I think the problem is that people just don't know about it, or don't take the time too.

People research the hell out of a problem through the threads of the board, and I'm sure would research a person too, if there was enough feedback information.

I'm really down on a minimum count or time, and especially making someone into an escrow. Just be real people, and leave feedback.

how about a relevant answer to the question such as,
"Its not unnecessary, people need to be responsible in researching who they are buying from, by utilizing the feedback system that is already in place on the website"

Hmmm,  I bought a rear wheel from you and left you good feedback. I don't see any left for me. So which is it, you don't know about it or you didn't take the time?

Really, I think where a lot of people get into trouble is when a deal seems to be to good to be true, it usually is. Use your head, if a lot of money is at stake, talk to the person on the phone. Many times something will seem fishy or you'll just get a vibe that tells you to move on.

Feedback ... I never have left any one any feedback ... Dealt with 100's of people literally some of them more than 1 time on more than 1 part (ofcourse with seamax its been 3 times on the same part ... carbs, but 3 different carbs though ...  :thumb:) ...
Some people have left me feedback at random ... but one guy left me bad feedback cos he found a better deal on a ninja 250 and what not ... long story ... anyway, the first feedback I got was bad. Feedback needs to be tied to each forsale posting like ebay ... else its going to be waaaay off ... Even ebay is off at times.
Cool.

Is this why my fairings aren't sold yet!? I didn't find the website until I decided I wanted to do the conversion but I can understand the skepticism of some people not wanting to deal with a new guy. I think the 30 days 30 posts is a good idea tho... just not until after I have sold my stuff, if it sells.

hello i am knew to this forum but if people got to ripe off other people for money they should not even be on the web site because the way things are now a days people are suppose to be honest period. thanks craftierod

start using the feedbaclk  system with additions. each fedbaclk has to be tied to a particu;lar sale. right now i can leave you a feedbacl for , anyhtign. so rihgt now its not too accurate

I voted for 30 days, relevant posts.  I'm here only since last summer, and I have no friends here, not yet at least, and I posted something for sale or trade.  I'm not a scamming squid with a crack habit.  I described the item accurately and when I tell someone I'm going to do something, I DO IT!!

my feeling is you buy on the internet at your own risk. I really dont think you should limit the opportunity that some of these people parting bikes and come on the forums just for that purpose are here for.

heck I have bought parts from guys here that only posted a couple of times. I have been burned on ebay before and you see what all those hoops gets you,, still burned.

I feel the risk should still be left up to the buyer. make sure to follow basic business rules and get someones number and call them or so on and so forth.

The rating system is very good although I dont know how many people use it. I use it and im sure maybe only a hand full of others do . but it is the best Idea !

well, yes, the risk is entirely on the buyer- that's the point for asking of opinions/solutions in this thread. as far as phone numbers, it's easy enough for a fraudulent seller to change numbers or just not answer your calls after they are paid. i've seen that happen also.

ya, the rating system is decent, and you can see real experiences with the members that use it. more use = more stability and trust.

generally, lower post count on forums (not just gstwins) and advertising things for sale is an indicator of trying to make a quick buck. craigslist and ebay work well for that for the seller. craigslist is BUYER oriented, because it's a face-to-face sale. hands on merchandise, and easy enough to prosecute / sue someone if a product isn't as advertised. this is why i love craigslist and the rating system on gstwins.

the thread isn't perfect, nor are all the suggestions. it also serves as a warning to folks that just expect everyone on gstwins to be helpfull and honest. sure, it's an AWESOME forum, sure, there is fast, correct and nicely worded advice... everyone needs a little caution when buying/selling though.

:) thanks for the input, each post counts to keeping the sales legit !

when buying on here, if the seller has low feedback, I always try to get them on the phone, along with full name.  most times, I get that from their phone number though.  and whenever I buy or sell something, I always ask the other party to leave me feedback as I have for them.  but sometimes it takes me a few months to get around to reminding them
