Women are amazing aren't they?   I talked for two years about getting a bike, got my permit, had a helmet setting around the house for 4 months,  but when I went after the bike, it was like, "What do you mean buy a bike?  WTF, you better think long and hard", like it was some spur of the moment decision.   I got tears, black looks, the whole nine.  LOL!  I didnt get a meal cooked for 30 days nearly! Funny as hell.   She couldn't hold out on refusing sex, LOL! That's what got me into this in first place.   Great girl though.

Anyway it's good for the women to have the man assert himself on occasion just because.   Little ego check for 'em.

I feel your pain.  My wife's like "You're not getting on that bike till you get a Will made first"   The furthest I got to ride it was in the culdesac in front of my house.  Feeling like a little kid sneaking out his tricycle for a quick thrill ride 

Believe it or not, I got my MC license 20yrs ago and this is the 1st street bike I got.  To boot I've been working on this GS in my garage for the past 3 months itching to get it on the road b4 summer's over

Bottom line is do what makes you happy.  Kalee doesn't have anything negative to say about bikes aside from her fear that I'll get hurt and the money I'm willing to spend to get new bikes.  If your woman has issues with you getting a bike in general and it's something you really want, you probably chose the wrong woman.

My ex was an EMT. I guess she had tended to a few bike accidents. She told me if I ever got a bike she would leave me, hah. I didn't get one then.

My current girlfriend was more upset that I was spending money on the GS instead of spending it on a vacation.

Being married doesn't give anyone the right to make decisions for you. I agree w/ Mak, if your wife is telling you what you can and cant do (within reason) you chose the wrong person. Seems all my friends have wives that RUN their life instead of SHARE in it  When it comes to having a family there are some choices that need to be made together... However, your hobbies  and passions should never come into question.

I think the biggest thing is fear.  No one wants to see a loved one get hurt.  Trick is to get her/him on the bike and make them see just how great it is.  Then they won't be able to Buddha Loves You because they'll be right there with you!

My wife knew I used to own Motorcycles, and every apartment we ever looked at to live in, I always asked if they were motorcycle friendly, in the thought of getting one again one day.

I guess these reminders weren't enough, because when I went to go buy the GS, she gave me this little tear session where I told her of all of the reasons I wanted another bike. 

After I came home with it, and she helped me unload it off the truck, I could tell she liked it. 

She ALMOST lost me the bike (other bidders), but if I hadn't shown up when I did, I probably would have paid $900 instead of $700.  So, I have to thank her for that.

You need the hierachy from the outset.  My other half knows the bikes were here before she was, and if needs be they will be here after she is gone. I knew from the start that she hated bikes and she knew from the start that I hated museums. She volunteers at 2 museums and I ride bikes, we just live with it and get on with it. Everybody is different and I dont force her to go on the bikes and she dont force me to go to museums, its all good.

Appart from that, I prefer riding on my own.

Love her to bits though. (allmost as much as the bikes).

my wife wasn't happy. I think it was only because she took a spill while a passenger years ago. She kept telling me that i wasn't going to get a bike. She didn't think I would until i came home with my gs. She was mad but she is over it now. I wear all my gear and she knows i am always wary of crazy cagers.

This wife made long sad faces at then live in boyfriend until he came home with a smaller version of his own dual sport, because he "liked 225s too." Supposedly it was for his kid, who had 0 interest. I couldn't afford one myself, it had been 20 + years since I'd had my last motorcycle, and the "I wanna ride" Honda commercials were literally making me cry. I got to ride it eventually, and then started going out on longer rides with him. In my card for my next birthday was a drawing of the moto and an unofficial transfer of title to me. I followed him on lots of rides for the next 2-3 years.

We got married, he kept getting bigger bikes, I finally said Ya know what, I really do need a bigger bike, I can't keep up with your 650 on this 225.
So we got the GS, and he rode it home on the fwy for me for 60 miles because it was running a little funky and had this little "stumble" at low rpms that we thought was just dirty carbs..... LOL!

So yeah, I am afraid for him when he rides, more than he is for me, he takes more chances. He says after seeing me crash my mountain bike pretty hard though that he will be a lot more careful, it scared him bad. Me too, I was following him and I will never do anything again just because he leaves me behind, I will ALWAYS ride my own ride 100% from now on, because sometimes he is an IDIOT.

I think the control thing mostly women do on guys is basically fear. Lots of people don't know how to just come out and say "I'm terrified you're going to get maimed or killed!" We really don't always communicate well (men and women). I have a girlfriend who loves motorcycles and rides a Honda 599, it's gorgeous. We ride together and swap bikes in the parking lot for low speed practice, she likes my bikes low seat height and the turn in. Her husband just can't understand the motorcycle bug, but he lets her alone about it. It's the other person's life, you can ask them to please be careful, please wear gear, please take the damned headphones out of their ears when they ride, but it's their life and their choice. It is a good idea to have as big of a term life policy as you can, and to have good health insurance if you are going to do this sport though, IMO. I think the more you have, the less the Universe will pick on you.

Lordy I would love to have a Monster, or probably really need to go to a supermoto once I'm done with my GS and get it all out of my system. Or keep the GS and get a supermoto we both could ride. If Aprilia made a baby brother to the Shiver I'd sure be interested, we saw one on Saddle Peak and it was a gorgeous bike. What we both really want is a 3 car garage. With a real house attached and a driveway and a yard. Then we'd have about 6 motos and 6 bicycles and a couple of kayaks and another dog.

my gf was pissed, i told her, um i had the bike before you came along, it is a package deal. shes liek its me or the bike, i said, ( as teh country song said ) " aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand im gonna miss her"  , she hung around for a while though

Getting a motorcycle was my wife's idea!  She has her own, but doesn't ride as much as me.  My wife scoffs at overprotective, hen-pecking women.  It's your life.  Live it!  Carpe diem!

I knew my g/f wasn't going to be happy with me spending the money or time working on a bike, but its always been a hobby of mine.  I flat out told her I had the money saved up and once I found one I was going to buy it.  She STILL cried when I brought one home.  She has totally warmed up to the idea because even though I'm spending all that time and money on the bike, I'm including her in it and its sort of become a family project.  Now that being said, I'm sure she wouldn't mind if I never spent another minute working on the bike, or another dollar on it either!
