well

i've posted a few times before about my free GS  :icon_mrgreen:

when i got it it needed a few things.... starting with a tach cable and an air filter (the other was literally falling apart)

recently the chain got worse then i adjusted it only to find it worse again (crappy roller anyway)

on tues morning my clutch cable broke about 1 block from home (amazing how heavy they feel when you "get" to push it)

wens i ordered parts....

yeterday i bagan to instlll.... 8)

i went down to a 14 up front repalced the stock 39 in the rear with another 39....

good RK roller (though i wish the guy at the parts store would have asked if i wanted rivet or clip master link... as i've never seen a rivet before... that was fun =-(

so after finding my center punch and a hammer.....

at the same time i also changed my clutch cable (yah!)

i painted my frame (bright silver)

and rejetted.... i went from the stockers to a 40/150 combo (as per another thread)

i've already drilled my pipe.....

finally tok it out an WOW it's a new machine...

with the clucth in much farther and it being soo much more ummmm....  jumpy?

though now it seems to stutter around 9500-11000

if i roll on it slow it'll rev to 11 no issues if i just WOT it it'll stutter some...

anythoughts on that?

and as per the previous 3 threads...

PICS!!!!!

my 1990 GS500E with 20k mi

Take out the bolt and shine a flashlight in the hole; there may be a broken piece stuck inside :(

You're talking about the o-ring that goes behind the oil filter cover, right? They should be quite common; in fact, I think they come in the box with the Fram filter. I get mine at my local Suzuki dealer. They're only a couple of bucks and they always have it in stock.

Just order a filter that includes one, and use the o-ring now, the filter later. Under $5 at one of the parts places I was perusing today - dennis kirk or bike bandit.

Note - some of the "oil change pictures/instructions" show the use of steel tools / knives to get the o-ring out - bad idea - you don't want to use anything that is harder than the metal of the o-ring groove, as scratches will cause leaks. An old credit card is fairly safe and effective, as are fingernails, though a lot can be done with fingers and the right technique ( basically, wipe the o-ring clean and push a section together until you have a hump of o-ring sticking up from the groove you can grab) - and fingers won't damage the o-ring, either (which credit card and fingernails can).

You may want to look closely at the o-ring groove to see if it's previously damaged - particularly if it still leaks when you use a new o-ring.

Got my o-ring at autozone with the filter.  A few bucks and don't have to wait for it.

autozone stocks filters for bikes?

Sweet.

Did not know that.   :o
I love it when a plan comes together.

i would pull it out if i could.....

i can't move it in or out..

and i've tried heating it...

oiling it,...

ect...

i just dont want to break the stud....

starshooter10

i've done some more research....

you guys thing that adding washered to my needles would help this?

right now i have some sandpaper and a ratchet under my seat in hopes that if it fouls a plug i can limp home...

from what i m reading 150 may be a bit too big =-/

but if a simple washer (or 2... or three) will fix it that'll i'll drop those bad boys in.... (and thats something i can do with the carbs IN [though i still need to remove the tank *rants])

OK, if the bolt is frozen then being cautious is the right approach; I wouldn't want to break it either. You will have to soak it with penetrating oil (PB Blaster etc.). With a little luck, it may come loose after several days of repeated application.

It's strange that the bolt would be frozen 1/2" out.

commuterdude

+1 on the penetrating oil.   I squirted some WD40 on my header bolts as they looked rusted on a little, noticed on a ride a few days later my exhaust note changed, looked and they were ALL backed out halfway and the header just rattling away in there.
Attack but have a back up plan

hrm i'll try to blast it..

only problem is this is my daily rider.... and i let my cage fall out of regitration
