Can someone tell me how to do this. My magnets are broken in mine from someone else trying to remove it and failing. Could someone help me because I need to replace the rotor as well as the starter clutch.

Thanks,
Nick

check that post for more info on "different ways of getting the rotor out"

If you need the slide hammer, look for the post "buddha's slide hammer available for circulation"

Does anyone happen to have a good rotor they would like to sell????

I'd be more than willing to buy it from them if it is in good condition!

I might have one in the shed.  Where are you?

nick_packer

I'm in Michigan.... coldwater, MI

Please check cause I don't want to pay 150 for a new one.

just fyi (to help your search).... that part is also called the 'stator' or 'magneto'

it's not a stator... that's the coils.... I could buy the freakin part brand new for 160... but that's a lot..  Thanks though!!!

Alright... I bit the bullet and bought the part from Babbit's Sport Center that is in Michigan near me. The removal was quite easy.... the whole practice tap with the slide hammer pulled it off.... I was actually irritated that is was that easy.

I tried wrapping clothes hangars around the rotor and pulling on them with a jerking motion with a crow bar... didn't work. Tried hooking some ratchet straps to the back of it at 3 and 9 o'clock, and hooking it to the under side of my truck and throwing the bike to the side thinking it would jerk it off. NOPE... I worked for hours and got eaten alive by mosquitoes.

My friend works on a farm, so they have all kinds of tools and I asked his boss, which is a friend of mine, if he had a slide hammer. He did! All this time and it was closer to me than I though. I took it home, threaded it in, practice tapped it, and boom.... it was off. I about cried.

Now, I am patiently waiting for my new part to get here so I can get on the road!!! My buddies are teasing me like hell about going places with them... Hey nick, why don't you ride your bike.... oh, never mind, you can't, because it's still broken.

BIG MEANIE FACES!!!!

Thanks for the help!!

Something I found out.  Crack in my lower case, so I decided to completely overhaul the entire engine.  When removing the rotor, came Clymer manual and says to use a slide hammer with a 14mm X 1.5mm threaded end or use the rear axle bolt as it is the same thread size and all.  WRONG. My 2001 rear axle shaft is not the same size it is bigger.  Made up the slide hammer though.  It didn't work, maybe because the engine was on my bench by this time.  Used the  bolt and spacer method and "pop" it came off.  Now I'll just have to put the rear end back together. :dunno_white:

I used a vulcan front axle, I think GS front axle is the 14mm size. Swingarm pivot too maybe ?
Cool.
