I am interested in learning about sake next and am curious as to brands that are a good bang for the buck.  I'm not into dropping a bunch of money into something that is only slightly better than something else, but costs twice as much, so drop some names!

I don't remember the names of what we have had, we usually go with the chefs recommendation at the Sushi restraunt. They never push the expensive stuff on the menu and it has all been good. I like hot sake and prefer a more neutral flavor that is very dry. My wife likes a lightly plum scented sake that goes well chilled. I would suggest asking your Sushi chef at your favorite restraunt if he could recommend a good pairing for your chosen sushi. In our case the waitress has to interpert as the chef at the counter where we go speaks zero english.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

fortunately, all but one of the 4 chefs here speak english and I'm good friends with one of them.  Now that you put it that way, I'll just ask him next time.  He's a teppanyaki chef and really knows his stuff.  Still, up for any recommendations that are out there.

Stay away from the Albertson's sake in 6-pack cans!  (The plastic 2-liter is OK)   :thumb:

More seriously:  Ask your local wine merchant or ABC store or whatever you have near you.  Someone there will be able to steer you to the good stuff.
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

I don't often like to ask the locals here because we're a hole in the middle of nowhere and all they're looking for is a few bucks so thats what they point you toward.  There are a few decent people around, but very few.
