Advice Needed on vehicle title

C/N: My title is being held hostage.

Bought a vehicle, and went to register it, but there was a mistake on the title.  It was my fault, I put the state in the wrong location.  So to fix the problem, the RMV gave me a form that the seller had to get notarized.

So I got a hold of the kid and drove to his place and gave him the form and title back.  The following day he said that he got the form filled out and notarized and he'd deliever them to me the next day.  Since then I haven't heard from him at all.  He's not answering his phone or replying to text messages or voicemails.

Is there anything I can besides just trying to call everyday to get an update.

My impressions of him before actually buying the bike were that he was really unreliable.  I don't think he's trying to scam me (I have the car in my posession), but it's incredibly frustrating going a week without any response.  He's already got the money so it seems he's in no rush to get back to me.  I've done my best to leave polite voicemails and messages without just yelling at him but I'm running out of patience.

Any tips on what I should/can do?

call him every time you have a chance but don't leave a message.  Just keep calling until you get a person.  In the event that you get not the person you are looking for ask them to leave a message and call back in a bit if you don't hear back.  Thats about the only way to get someone, who sounds lazy to me, to do what they said they already have.

Also put the car somewhere were it can not be toed.  I've seen a friend go through something similar but after about two and a half weeks the @$$hole that was selling the car had it toed back to his place, knew were my friend lived, and continued driving it after my friend and paid in full.  I law suit got the money back but still, cover your bases.

Edit: or the seller could report it stolen and really f%$k you over for a night.

Haha, I don't think a s&w will help.  I want to stay on his good side till everything's registered!

This is exactly what I've been worried about.  The good thing is, he's on a local car forum similar to this site and seems to be a well known person there.  So I do think it's more of him being lazy than wanting to screw me over.  Either way, I'll lock it up to be safe.

I think I may also go to the insurance company and grab a photocopy of the title they took.  I'm not sure if that will help though since it does say any cross outs void the title.

So one tiny mistake leads to so much frustration.  I could understand if it was the mileage or the names put in the wrong spot, but I just put the state right after the city instead of in the box for state.  That should be an acceptable mistake, but nope.  :dunno_white:

Finally got a hold of him.  Arranged for me to go to his place and get the form and title.  I was 5 minutes late getting there and while I was pulling into the parking lot of the apartment complex, he was leaving in his car!   Luckily I flagged him down and got the stuff.  If I was 30 seconds later I wouldn't have seen him!

The good news is that it looks like the form is correctly filled out and hopefully everything should go smoothly at the RMV.  But what a frustrating experience this has been.

When I sell a car I've got all the info and paperwork ready and get back to people right away.

Now that it's all sorted, track him down and beat the hell outta him for being a dunbass and making you wait.   ;)
