My first rejetting experience

So I had a lovely time rejetting my bike tonight...

What the he*& kind of nuclear powered drill do they use to tighten these at the factory?! All 8 of the screws holding my float bowls on (I think that's what they're called, whatever the jets are hiding under) I either used a screw extractor or used my dremel to slot the screws(yeah, i bought the dremel just because of this job).

I only changed the mains for now. They're 150s. I put individual air filters on the carbs as well. Chrome, gorgeous looking ones. Bolted the bike all back together and it runs great. It's pretty rich...but I'd rather be rich than lean!

I'm getting a new exhaust sometime really soon, so I'm not too worried yet. And I've gotta go back in eventually to put in new pilots and midmains, and replace all the hardware with hex head screws instead of those damned philips head screws.

Oh and the bike is louder when you get on the gas, when you're off the gas it sounds quiet as stock...it's pretty fun.

Yeah i had to apply pressure to the screws, while my dad twisted them with vice grips.  It took forever.

Cusimano

when ever i remove the float bowls i always put a dab of anti seize on the bolts.

Does anybody know offhand what size bolts I'm going to need to buy to replace the ones I slotted out? I'd rather not go to the hardware store and guess at different sizes with a screw in hand. Also, anyone have a vacuum hose routing picture/diagram? Got a few vacuum hoses that I'm not sure what to do with.

*edit* Found it on the wiki...

2002--4mm X 0.7mm 10mm length

So 2002 and up - 4 mm wide bolt , .7mm pitch, 100 mm length, correct?

FFR- ACE and LOWES both have bolt thread gauges built into their screws/bolts section. It's nice n handy for on-the-road repairs. :)

They don't use a nuclear powered wrench to tighten the carb's screws, it's just the screws are made of high-tensile swiss cheese by-product. (joking aside) Oh, they -do- however use a special bit that isn't a normal phillips head end though, and that contributes to folks stripping them.

After you replace your float bowl screws with something different you'll likely never need to get into the carbs again ;)
