Replacing turn signal

Hello All,
My GS is my first bike.  I dropped it at the end of last year and broke the front right turn signal.  I had it glued on then taped on but finally broke down and bought a new stock turn signal.  Does anyone have any pointers or things I should look out for when replacing it?  I was talking to the guys at my motorcycle shop and they gave me some info.  But since this is a forum just for the GS I thought I would ask the true experts.  I wanted to try it on my own rather then pay anyone.  This will be the first thing I am ever doing on my bike.  I can usually figure things out and it looks like it shouldn't be too difficult but that could be because I am a newbie and don't know what I am getting myself into.  I am hoping the fairings don't need to come off.

Any pointers or lessons learned would be appreciated.  I am planning on replacing it next weekend when I have two full days to work on it (in case I need them  :) )

Your fairings don't need to come off you can reach the back of the signal from the front. It's pretty simple two wires and they are color coded.  If you do need to take off your fairings for any other reason it is pretty easy also. There are complete instructions on the wiki I believe.
