Gas Tank Compatibility?

Is the gas tank from a 2001 GS500 the same as the one on a 2005 model?

Yes (apart from coulour/decals).

In 2001 the new, bigger tank was introduced, so unless you've got a 2000 model sold in 2001...

Has the shape of the tank changed for the 2008 model?

Only change was in 2001.
17l before, 20l after (whatever that is in gallons). Same mounting, so you can swap easily.

Thanks again. Reason I'm asking is I am looking at buying the Suzuki factory GS500 tank cover, but it says it's for a 2001 model and I have the 2005 version.
