I just got it in the mail today, and I'm trying to figure out how it mounts up to my bike. I havent gone out to look at my bike yet, and it's probably a dumb question either way. The pic I have shows it on the "ON" position where the mounting tab is.

Thanks in advance everyone!

Got it! Now my battery is dead...fun.

Push starting is kind of fun... At least it is a decent workout...

Actually earlier tonight I had the pleasure of walking my bike home a mile in the dark. Does anybody have a picture of how this f*#king fuel valve goes on?

Just grind down that positioning tab on the right on the back and mount in the same orientation as he is holding it.

I covered that already. Now my problem is either I mixed the fuel lines up and theyre hooked up backwards, or Ive got another fuel starvation problem somewhere else down the line. Also, I flooded the bike twice in the process and killed the battery twice as well. Looks like she'll be sitting on a trickle charger all day while I let the fuel settle. S*!tty thing is, my new helmet is to arive today.

According to this
http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/honda-motorcycle-crf250x-2004/o/m2265 under the "fuel tank" section the top of the two inputs on the left is the reserve(16) and the bottom is the main(15) the one on the right then goes to the carbs.  If it's running badly, did you cap the vacuum port on the carb where the vacuum hose for the old petcock was?  Also, make sure that you have gas and that the tank petcock is all of the way turned on, they can sometimes be finicky.

Good luck.

BTW what new lid did you buy?  Have to give us some pics

The inlets are marked on the Honda petcock. Here is how mine is mounted and the hoses are routed.

I ground off the ridge from the back side of the Honda petcock and tried to mount it in the stock location. It didn't stick out far enough and the forward facing inlets were inside the depression in the side of the airbox. In this position the hoses were bent at a sharp angle.

I mounted a stud in the hole that was used to keep the original petcock in position. This let me space the petcock out far enough that the hoses weren't crimped and I could reach it easier.

Everything seems to be running okay now. I just hope I didnt cross the reserve and ON lines or something.I ran the lines identical to how they were on the old valve, otherwise the lines bind up on me. The helmet I got is a GMax GM68. It's flat black, and so far a HUGE improvement over my old helmet. MY old hemlet being a generic dirtcike helmet from when I used to ride ATV's.

Sounds like you need some new, non-hardened gas lines. IMHO, preferably ones that ARE gas lines, and thus less likely to harden quite as fast as generic vinyl tubing (which lots of folks seem to like to use). Stealer should have it on hand, or you can order from CRC2, but the shipping is a bear if that's all you are ordering.

If you hooked up the lines to the "same place on the petcock" and the lines were run correctly before, they are run wrong now, since the outlet to the carbs comes from a different spot on your new petcock, per pkhoff's pictures.

Okay, I guess I'm going to be buying new lines and re-ruoting them correctly. The ones on there now do look kinda bad.
