So my bike dies on me AGAIN today while riding around with a false sense that my problems are over for the mean time. I won't bore you with the trivial details, but I could use some help with what facts have occured.

1. Bike dies again like its starving for fuel(already replaced petcock AND plugged VACUUM FITTING).
2. As I suspected, the vacuum cap fell off somewhere.
3. I replaced it with something more substantial.
4. Bike starts right up.
5. I twist the throttle and it sticks at 3k, and will not go back down.
6. I adjust idle air screw to compensate for the problem.

Did I do the right thing adjusting the idle air screw or is there a bigger problem that I'm masking by simply adjusting the screw?

Thanks AGAIN for the help everyone! :thumb:

Just for reference, are you talking about the vacuum cap on the carb (as opposed to the petcock)?

Assuming the carb has been capped correctly, I think you did the right thing by adjusting the idle screw to eliminate the hanging idle.

Did adjustment of the idle screw solve the problem? Is the bike running well now?

Yes I capped the vacuum for the carb. It seems to be running at the correct idle now. So just adjusting the idle control screw is the correct fix to this "hanging idle"?

Well, it's step 0 in a 5-step process:

You're lucky you solved it at step 0

I guess I am. I don't know if the problem will come back though. My new "vacuum cap" consists of the original vacuum line cut very short, and stuffed with a bolt threaded into the other side. It's a little long and I'm worried about it dangling around the throttle linkage and everything. Its tucked into a good spot as far as I can tell, I am going to zip tie it there so hopefully it won't give me anymore problems anytime soon.

Try a different auto parts store for a decent vacuum cap? A good one should not come off, or you could put a clamp on a bad one I suppose.
