Howdy all! (I haven't posted anything in a while)

I was considering a engine swap instead of buying a new bike all together... Has anyone out there tried to stuff an SV 650 engine in a GS frame... and is this even possible? I was considering getting the SV but I just love flickin my GS through the twisties...???

I would seriously doubt it since the SV is a V-twin.  Unless you would be willing to do some serious modifications to the frame.  While you were at it, you may as well shoe-horn the SV1000 engine in there instead.

I didn't even take that (v-twin) issue into consideration!

Thanks for the feedback!

It is possible, but more work & $$$ than its worth.  Besides needing to relocate the engine mounts, you will have to totally redesign the fuel tank/airbox, because the rear cylinder will stick up into it and the down-draft carbs.  And it will STILL be heavier than an SV. You might as well buy an SV.

BTW- A Korean company (Hoyoshin or something) makes a bike that looks exactly like a GS with an SV engine shoved into it.  IMHO it looks like crap.

shoot just go all out. strech the frame support it a little more and put in that hayabusa engine in it. im sure that your gs would blow them all out the water if you did that. probably look kinda weird to.

I think it will accelerate so fast that the frame folds itself up

The use of rudeness and foul language clearly reflect an inability to articulate, and to put even a few short sentences into some meaningful, coherent thoughts.

I don't know why it is you think you have the right to speak to anyone on this message board as you do, but it's totally inappropriate.

funny thing is the 'busas dry weight is roughly only 50-60 lbs more that the gs's wet weight.

:?

I was just making a joke. A Hayabusa engine in the tiny GS500 frame is funny, think about it :P

Besides, how do you think the frame is going to act when it has to cope with more than 3 times the power it was designed for.

if you don't use a stronger chain i think the chain will snap in a second, or stay below 1500 rpm:)
hmm...... OK :-)

Okey I have seen one bike it was a prototype, and the manufactory was something called Hyosung and modell is Comet...
Well they had done a 125cc V-twin engine into Gs frame. I think they are now selling it in here (Finland). Here is a pic...

GS heaven.

KevinC

Hyosung has a 600 V-twin that doesn't look bad to me, but what do I know.

8 valves anyway.

Edit: Supposedly 65 hp, and 308 lbs. dry.

The Hyosung 600 is supposed to sell in the US starting early next year. There's also a 250 that looks like that they're selling here too. i was on a yahoo group started by the company to get feedback-their 250cc cruisers are already selling back east.
